| Beschreibung: |
This seminar is a brief introduction to the History, the actuality and to the future of the Latin-American cities; and to the life and legacy of Milton Santos, prominent Brazilian geographer. The method of Categories of Space of Santos is based on his definition of space, which considers it as a social product in permanent process of transformation: ... the space is the unequal accumulation of times (1986, 2001), and which imposes its own reality: the society cannot operate out of it. According to Santos, to understand the space, it is necessary to apprehend its relationship with the society, then is the latter who drives the comprehension of the effects of the processes an specify the notions of form, function and structure. The students will analyze several Latin-American cities using this method, and will be asked to present them during the semester and to delivery an essay, at the end of this seminar. |
