“14tons” is a material study that experimentally deals with the raw material straw. By using high pressure and heat, the agricultural waste product straw combined with starch and lignin is transformed into a solid.

The work highlights the properties and production of the material and shows its capabilities in a stool design. One special feature is the achievement of two different densities in one pressing, which is made visible by the red-stained feet, which reach the density of spruce wood.

This bachelor thesis stems from a fascination for alternative building materials and processing technologies in architecture and intends to show how such alternatives can also be used in design.
