“ATTENTION, ORGANIZATION, ACTION” reflects on the perception of rhythm in public space. As a booklet – containing perception exercises/ performative actions, brief theoretical texts and personal experiences – it acts as a toolkit to explore the polyrhythmic structures, that are our urban environments.
As a starting point, the project dives into the writings of Henri Lefebvre on time, space and rhythm. Based on Lefebvre’s Rhythmanalysis “science”, the booklet discusses the phenomenological debate that surrounds rhythm: Sensing, sense-making, repetition, time & space, scales, the subjective and the interpersonal. Building on these abstracted concepts, the project presents perception and action exercises that are meant to be performed in public space. Inherent in using the booklet is not only the execution of the exercises, but also the written reflexion of the experiences during the actions. The exercises function not only as means to embody and experience rhythmicalities, but also as a way to gently disrupt the public space of Weimar, Germany.
