Nele Hahn: Cap Vla, 2024
Type: Semester Project Degree Programme: Visual Communication Professorship: Image-Text-Conception Supervision: Prof. Burkhart von Scheven, Masihne Rasuli

The challenge in the course “Tetra Pak – Bad or Good?” was to develop a plant-based milk alternative that is not only nutritious and tasty, but also makes a credible contribution to a “better world” through its content and packaging.

How can packaging itself help protect the environment? From 2024, an EU directive requires that closures (caps) be attached to containers to reduce waste and ensure that all packaging parts are fully recycled.

The packaging for the fictional brand Cap Vla reflects this regulation visually and conceptually: the cap becomes the hat of a drawn character on the packaging – playfully communicating that cap and container belong together. This approach is particularly aimed at children, teaching them early on how to handle packaging responsibly. The message is reinforced by the phrase “Take good care of my hat” above the cap. A description on the side gives further information on how to properly recycle the composite packaging.
