Marie Kurstjens: COOK/ABILITY, 2023
Type: Bachelor’s Project Degree Programme: Product Design Professorship: Design and Management Supervision: Prof. Gerrit Babtist, Almut Nowack

COOK/ABILITY is a service concept that enables people with tetraplegia to gain more autonomy in cooking through a well-thought-out and intuitive system, tailored to the users’ conditions and abilities. The design presents an exemplary approach demonstrating how a participatory process can generate innovative solutions that are potentially groundbreaking and capable of reinvigorating the discourse on inclusion and disability. The resulting product can be perfectly customized to each individual user, and thanks to various kitchen tools, the end user can carry out the cooking process independently and autonomously. In addition to the individualized product, the process emphasizes participation and flexibility. Its structure is fluid and can adapt agilely to feedback and external influences.
