Niklas Dunschen: Die Menschliche Orgel, 2024
Type: Semester Project Degree Programme: Media Art and Design Professorship: Acoustic Ecologies and Sound Studies Advisors: Jun.-Prof. Kersing Ergenzinger, Bnaya Halperin-Kaddari

The “Human Organ” is a performative instrument consisting of a choir and a keyboard. Each person in the choir sings an assigned note whenever it is pressed on the keyboard. When the note assigned to the channel is played, a software instrument generates the corresponding sine tone, which again is assigned to exactly one person in the choir. All organ singers wear headphones and only hear their designated pitch. Everyone has the task of only singing their note when they hear it. In the performance, the audience is given the opportunity to play this choir. The human errors of the singers, such as a delayed reaction time, are part of the performance.
