Klasse Dahlem: Exhibition Highlights, 2022–2023
Type: Exhibitions Degree Programme: Fine Art (Dipl.) Professorship: Sculpture – Object – Installation Advisors: Prof. Björn Dahlem, Florian Schmidt

“MONOROOM” was an exhibition by Lars Blum, a week-long series of events, a walk-in mono-speaker. A site-specific room-installation inside of a room, which allowed a contemplative immersion in electroacoustic compositions.

Felix Deiters graduation show (un)Patient took place in January 2023. An ambiguous space, merging studio, operating theater, confessional booth, and hospital room into one, offers up the question if medical transition paths are ultimately designed to lead into cis-heteronormativity and where to go from there, when social constructs and norms intertwine with psychiatric diagnosis. Gazes onto the body turn into observations of microscopic organic forms, away from pre-determined symbols or the human scale of things. The installation is layering its rooms, wall drawings and objects around a three-chapter narration and questionnaire, displayed as a handbound fanzine.

The spatial installation “AN INTROSPECTIVE MONUMENT” has been on display in one of the studio rooms of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since the 2022 annual exhibition.

Till Röttjer devised a place here where it is possible to deviate from traditional concepts of attributions and classifications. He invited artist colleagues and friends like Coretta Klaue and Lea Bredenbals to develop their own works in this space. The artistic structure becomes part of a process and can be understood as a spatial instrument through which the participants interact.

Ioannis Oriwol site-specific light installations create scenes that engender alternative physical regularities and liminal states in space. The work “Zona” (2023) at Nova Space creates a restricted area populated by luminous, organic structures. This area is not accessible; insight is granted solely by a viewing window, which at the same time exposes the viewers to the sphere of the light. Whether this barrier zone was established to preserve the inner life or to protect the outside world remains unclear.
