Diana Karle: Planet Ultra – Ein performativer Audiowalk über Fledermäuse, 2023
Type: Master’s Project Degree Programme: Media Art and Design Professorship: Acoustic Ecologies and Sound Studies Supervision: Jun.-Prof. Kerstin Ergenzinger

In this walk-in radio play, participants embark on a journey with “Barbastella” and their two “interspecies coordinators” in search of bats’ secret coexistence – accompanied by a touch of everyday science fiction.

Almost all bat species living in Thuringia are on the Red List of endangered species and are strictly protected. Some are even threatened with extinction. Planet Ultra is a poetic, artistic call to appreciate biodiversity.

Between art and science, the project sensitises listeners to the hidden acoustic world of bats, whose ultrasound-based communication remains inaudible to humans – inviting us to re-experience everyday places through other perspectives.
