The work module 'Environment and Synthetism' combines two terms used in art history in order to explore the design of environments and create new environments. The term 'environments' in art theory describes works of art that are located between art, architecture and design. 'Synthetism', in turn, is a term used by Post-Impressionist artists to describe their desire to combine the outward appearance of a natural form and the artist's feelings with aesthetic considerations of line, color and form. Based on the two terms described above, this work module uses various media to create experimental spatial collages and to investigate which spatial qualities can be responsible for influencing the mood of the people interacting in them.

We live in constant symbiosis with our environment at various scales. However, the symbiosis between human and non-human organisms has been turning from mutualistic into increasingly parasitic relationships, causing great damage to many species, including ourselves. This seminar aims to explore mutualism in the diverse relationships between different beings and things. These relationships have been manifested in several spatial structures, such as dovecotes, where pigeons are given shelter in exchange for their dung as a fertilizer. Together, we will study a variety of symbiotic relationships to understand the mechanisms at play. We will then develop a speculative, symbiotic project within the context of the Weimar university campus.

Where do we begin? Certainly not in front of a blank canvas. Nowadays, a new generation of designers, driven by the need for circularity and resource efficiency, is exploring the incorporation of the "as-found" in their design and making processes. However, the as-found needs a system. Emerging tools now allow us to digitize, systematize, and make accessible found components, materials, and resources for designers. The concept of "inventory-constrained design" reflects the growing importance of sustainable design and contributes to reducing the environmental impact of design processes.

The project "IrreguLab 1: Non-Standard Seriality for Toddler Seating" is the first in a series of projects (and skills courses) within IrreguLab, a transdisciplinary and inter-faculty teaching lab for digital design and fabrication with irregular materials, funded by the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching (StIL). In this project, we will develop and implement designs for children's furniture, experimenting with logics and workflows that transform "worthless" crooked wood into high-quality designs. The wood is dried in a on-campus solar kiln, scanned using 3D scanning, and inventoried in a shared database. We will use this database ourselves as test users by matching and pairing our designs with its components. The term "non-standard seriality" mentioned in the title hence refers less to tailoring towards user needs (as often seen in the discourse on mass customization) and more to designing with non-standardized materials, developing designs and workflows that incorporate this natural variability and even leverage it.

The students will : familiarize with ductile braced frame systems; design steel braced frames for seismic hazard, following modern building codes; reflect on underlying code concepts;  be actively involved in the experiments; become familiar with standardized testing protocols for steel braces; collect, analyze and interpret test data; explore the seismic behavior of steel braces in the full range of elastic-inelastic response, identify yielding and collapse mechanisms; create numerical models for seismic simulations; assess the strengths and weaknesses of alternative numerical models for accurate prediction of the experimental response; conclude on the produced qualitative and quantitative data in a final report.

Das Modul versucht, die Medienwissenschaft aus der Perspektive der feministischen Theorie zu denken und einen Überblick über diese Lesart zu vermitteln: Wir stellen uns die Frage, wie jene Ansätze produktiv gemacht werden können, um den Gender-Aspekt unserer medientechnischen Umwelt zu erforschen. Hierbei dienen unter anderem audiovisuelle Unterhaltungsmedien – die produktiv den Diskurs mitprägen und aktiv patriarchale Verhältnisse und Machtgefüge herstellen – als Gegenstand der Untersuchung. Neben der Arbeit am Text sollen dabei insbesondere Praktiken der Videografie als feministisches Werkzeug zum Einsatz kommen, um erlerntes Wissen kreativ zu vertiefen, zu erweitern und zu spezifizieren.

In diesem Seminar möchten wir einen Raum schaffen, um gemeinsam unsere gestalterischen Praktiken zu betrachten und zu reflektieren. Wir möchte uns konkret fragen: „Welche Beziehungen und Verbindungen entstehen in unseren gestalterischen Praxen?“. Erst wenn wir uns über die Verbindungen, die wir eingehen, bewusst werden und sie differenziert betrachten, können wir entscheiden, inwiefern wir diese gestalten können und möchten. Dem zugrunde liegt die These, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit diversen Beziehungen die Grundlage einer nachhaltigen Zukunftsgestaltung sein kann. Im Verlauf des Semesters möchten wir vom Reden, Hören, Lesen und Sprechen zum Fühlen und Erfahren kommen. Dafür nähern wir uns unserem Thema über verschiedene Gastbeiträgen, Workshops und Medien – von Film, Bild und Text zu Tanz und Intuition als gestalterisches Mittel.

Die Vereinten Nationen haben im Jahr 2015 Nachhaltigkeitsziele (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) verabschiedet, die bis zum Jahr 2030 umgesetzt werden sollen. Zu den 17 Zielen gehören unter anderem die Beendigung von Armut, Hunger und Ungleichheit sowie Bildung für alle und nachhaltige Städte. Im Projekt „SDG-Campus“ (https://sdg-campus.de/) entwickeln acht Technische Universitäten in Deutschland zeitgemäße und hochschulübergreifende Lernangebote, um die Nachhaltigkeitskompetenz ihrer Studierenden zu stärken. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf technologiebasierten Lösungen und der Entwicklung von Gestaltungskompetenzen.

Was passiert mit Materialien, die uns ausgedient haben und ihre primäre Funktion nicht mehr erfüllen können? Mit RESTPOSTEN wollen wir Überreste vergangener Projekte, die in den Werkstätten und Professuren Staub ansammeln, wieder in einen aktiven Materialkreislauf integrieren.

Durch die Bewertung ihres Zustands und Katalogisierung möchten wir diese Ressourcen wiederbeleben und auf einer Plattform oder einer Pinnwand uns Studierenden zugänglich machen. Dazu wollen wir unser Verständnis für zirkulären Materialgebrauch vertiefen, gemeinsam in Inputs und Diskussionen mit verschiedenen Akteur*innen aus der Praxis. Um die Grundlage für einen langfristigen Materialzyklus zu schaffen, brauchen wir die aktive Beteiligung von Studierenden aus unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen. Der Bauhaus Urban Energy Hub soll als Pavillon auf dem Universitätscampus in der Coudraystraße gebaut werden und wird als interaktiver Demonstrator zukunftsweisende Architektur-, Energie- und Nutzungskonzepte repräsentieren. Der Pavillon wird zugleich als prominenter Treffpunkt an der Universität fungieren, in dem Studierende, Forschende und Besucher*innen zusammenkommen. In diesem Bauhaus.Modul können Studierende hautnah erfahren, wie ein Gebäude entsteht, wie Konstruktion und Materialitäten ineinandergreifen und ausgebildet werden, wie die gestalterischen und künstlerischen Qualitäten des Entwurfs in der Realität wirken und wie innovative Technik und Medien in das Gebäude integriert werden.

In this project, we will explore more practically the extent to which start-ups and spin-offs, and also self-employment, can represent a career path during and especially after graduation. For this purpose, it is important to get to know the essential steps of entrepreneurial activity and, as far as possible, to experience them ourselves.

The work module “FREE_IT - AR monuments to diversity in Weimar” aims to make monuments to diversity visible on the streets of Weimar. To this end, augmented reality technology will be researched and a framework will be created that enables comprehensive exploration and presentation. The work module combines the history of science with media science and media informatics, as well as artistic research and different public spheres. FREE_IT is about renewing our public space and emphasizing diversity with the means of artistic research.

The module takes place as part of the university-wide 'Strengthening Democracy' initiative and in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung.

Even if many people assume so: human rights are not just a matter for the United Nations! Instead, cities and local civil society can also do a lot to ensure that human rights and sustainability goals are promoted and implemented on the municipal agenda. To delve into this topic, we will read and discuss selected literature, as well as talk to guest speakers. We will learn some basics about human rights as a field of study, and particularly about the subject of localization of human rights and how it can be applicable to our immediate environment. The result of the course will be a project related to Weimar from the perspective of human rights at the local level presented at the Summaery.

The question of the value of freedom is closely linked to notions of democracy and participation. Especially in the rural regions of Thuringia, Germany, various threads intersect with the rise of the "New Right," climate change, and slow digitalization, all of which (perceivedly) curtail freedoms and weaken trust in democracy. Participants will engage in conversations with people in rural Thuringia, learning about living conditions, needs, and concerns regarding freedom.

Das Seminar "Nachhaltige Raumproduktion. Architektur ohne (neu) bauen?" erforscht Formen, Prozesse und Möglichkeiten einer nachhaltigen Raumproduktion. Wie verändern sich Entwurfshaltung, Ästhetik und Planung, wenn Verfügbarkeit und Ko-Kreation im Fokus stehen? Das Format durchläuft drei Phasen: 1) eine theoretische Auseinandersetzung anhand von Fallbeispielen und Texten des aktuellen Diskurses zu Bauwende, Suffizienz und Reparatur, 2) interaktive Gesprächsrunden an verschiedenen Orten mit Expert*innen und 3) eine reflexive Nachbereitung für ein zusammenfassendes Glossar. Dem eigenen Interesse und Engagement folgend, werden dabei Motivationen, Haltungen, Arbeitsrealitäten, (Bau-) abläufe und Herausforderungen aus der Praxis diskutiert.

In this project, we will explore in a practical way how technology transfer from science to practice can succeed. Different paths (licensing, collaborative projects, contract research, ...) lend themselves to this transfer, with spin-offs being another path that includes them. Through the review of historical cultural trade unions and the analysis of new associations, as well as delving into the difficulties unveiled by new forms of work; the course aims to explore the circumstances that hinder the regulation of contemporary cultural work in order to build an overview of common needs and demands necessary to counterbalance shared precarious working conditions such as irregular working hours, lack of contracts and non regulated wages.

Regardless of individual disciplines and expertise, the course aspires to shed light on how individual positions can be linked to a common struggle and thus become an instrument of structural change and political agency through speculative collective practices in public space.

Am 26. Mai 2024 werden in den thüringischen Städten, Gemeinden und Landkreisen die Kommunalvertretungen neu gewählt, teilweise auch (Ober-)Bürgermeister:innen und Landrät:innen. Bundesweit blicken viele mit Sorge auf diese Wahlen, die vor allem als Stimmungstest für die Landtagswahlen im Herbst angesehen werden. Aber stimmt diese Vorstellung einer Dominanz überlokaler Themen und parteipolitischer Erwägungen bei einer Wahl, bei der darüber abgestimmt wird, wer in Gemeinderäten sitzt? In welchem Maße sind für den Wahlausgang nicht Landes- oder Bundespolitik und grundsätzliche gesellschaftliche Wertvorstellungen bedeutend, sondern (auch) lokale Sachfragen zu Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung? 

Um diesen und weiteren Fragen nachzugehen, bietet der Lehrstuhl Raumplanung & Raumforschung ein zweiteiliges Seminar an, das aus gemeinsamen Forschenden Lernen, inhaltlichen, theoretischen und methodischen Inputs sowie Austausch und Diskussion besteht. 

Im ersten Teil, der bereits im Februar startet und bis Mai dauert, steht die Vorbereitung und Durchführung des Lehrforschungsprojekts im Vordergrund. Ausgehend von theoretischen Grundlagen und einer Annäherung an die aktuelle gesellschaftspolitische Situation wird das Forschungsprojekt gemeinsam konzipiert, die Fragestellung konkretisiert und Methoden ausgewählt. Vor dem und begleitend zum Wahlgang werden die Erhebungen in ausgewählten Thüringer Kommunen durchgeführt.

The course 'memory to mind' sheds light on the heritage of Nazi history in Weimar and explores how contemporary and participatory forms of public memory can be conceptualised. By analysing existing manifestations of remembrance in public spaces, we question our own habitat. In the case of Weimar and its rural surroundings, we explore the Nazi heritage that can be found at every corner. Together, we visit existing and emerging sites of memory. We document visits, encounters, and our own thoughts on memory, society, and space.

Das Seminar nimmt den vernachlässigten Garten der ehemaligen Pension Haus Bräutigam in Schwarzburg, Thüringen zum Ausgangspunkt, um die Idee eines Gartens aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen heraus zu betrachten. Im Zentrum des Seminars steht die Frage, wie eine zukünftige Vorstellung des Gartens vor dem Hintergrund komplexer Realitäten wie Klimawandel, Ressourcenknappheit, Bedrohung der Biodiversität, aber auch sozialer, ideeller und ästhetischer Zusammenhänge aussehen kann. Das Bauhaus.Modul wird als NEB.Regionallabor gefördert und findet im Rahmen der Seminarreihe Experimentelle Praxis Haus Bräutigam statt, die wechselweise von unterschiedlichen Professuren der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik ausgerichtet wird.

Im Seminar "Naturwerkstein in Weimar - Verwendung, Schäden & Sanierung" haben Teilnehmende die Möglichkeit, die theoretischen und praktischen Grundlagen des Bauens mit Naturwerkstein sowie in betreuter Laborarbeit wertvolle Techniken der guten wissenschaftlichen Praxis zu erlernen; vertiefte Fachkompetenz; selbstständiges Erkennen von typischen Schadensbildern und geeigneten Sanierungsverfahren; Vermittlung von Sachverhalten vor Ort durch Stadtrundgänge und eintägige Exkursion mit Besichtigungen von Steinbrüchen und eines Betriebs aus der Natursteinbranche; Erweiterung der Methoden- und Selbstkompetenz sowie der Sozialkompetenz durch Bearbeitung eines vorgegebenen oder selbst gewählten Themas und Referat bzw. Abschlusspräsentation im Team.

Als Lektüreseminar konzipiert wollen wir im Rahmen des Bauhaus.Moduls Auszüge aus Didier Eribons „Rückkehr nach Reims“ (2016) sowie Pierre Bourdieus „Die Feinen Unterschiede: Kritik der gesellschaftlichen Urteilskraft“ (1987) lesen, analysieren und diskutieren. Nach Bourdieu beeinflusst die soziale Herkunft unseren Habitus. Auf Grundlage dessen nähern wir uns der Diskriminierungsform des Klassismus.

Von dem soziologischen Theorem des Habitus ausgehend wollen wir gemeinsam der urbanistischen Frage nachgehen: Wie prägen Erfahrungen von Klassismus die Wahrnehmung von Raum und Handlungsfähigkeit?

Die individuelle gesellschaftliche Verortung, biographischen Erfahrungen und den unterschiedlichen Herkunftsdisziplinen ermöglich uns eine multiperspektivische Analyse der gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse in denen wir leben und agieren. Ein Verständnis über wirkende gesellschaftliche Macht- und Herrschaftsverhältnissen und deren Ausdruck auch in der baulichen Umwelt ist vor allem auch für Planungs- und Beteiligungsprozesse unabdingbar.

Topics covered include research strategies, literature management, citation styles, writing techniques, and presenting results. As a Bauhaus.Modul, "Summer in the Garden" invites participants to explore the concept of the allotment garden. Depending on the interests of the group, we focus on historical, sociological or practical issues. Workshop formats and guest lectures offer an insight into the topic "garden" and different ways of dealing with community gardens. The current use, approach and significance of allotments can be illustrated using the example of an allotment garden in Weimar, which offers the opportunity to develop and try out ideas in practice on site.

Transformative Justice (TJ) ist ein Ansatz, der sich mit einer Antwort auf (sexualisierte) Gewalt in unseren Umfeldern befasst. Dabei steht nicht die Bestrafung der gewaltausübenden Personen im Vordergrund, sondern die Unterstützung der Betroffenen und die Veränderung gesellschaftlicher Strukturen, die (sexualisierte) Gewalt begünstigen. Eventformate wie Ausstellungen, Konzerte, Performances oder Interventionen sind reale Begegnungsräume. Das Bauhaus-Modul "Re:connect: open spaces“ fokussiert die Wiederbelebung und Zusammenbringen der studentischen Veranstaltungskultur durch interdisziplinäres Arbeiten und verschiedene Formate. Workshops bieten Raum für die Weiterentwicklung. Themen wie Konzeptentwicklung, Netzwerkarbeit, Lichtgestaltung, Dramaturgie und Veranstaltungsplanung stehen im Zentrum. Aktuelle Debatten, wie Diversity, Community Care und Awareness werden neben Teamfähigkeiten in diesem Blockseminar verhandelt. Kritische Diskussionen über Raum, Gesellschaft, Format und Wirkung von Veranstaltungen in Weimar ergänzen das Programm. Teilnehmende fungieren als Akteur*innen einer neuen Veranstaltungskultur und knüpfen Verbindungen zwischen studentischem und städtischem Leben, dokumentiert wird der Prozess. Ziel ist die Umsetzung der Summaery-Eröffnungsfeier und ggf. weiterer Veranstaltungsprojekte.

This is an invitation to explore the subversive potential of performance art. Our starting point will be Pipilotti Rist’s provocative statement "Ich kotze. Jetzt ist was andres auf dem Tisch.“ Based on this motto, we will explore strategies to refuse to digest, toss up the status quo, and put something new on the table. Performance will be our medium to point the finger, stick it down the metaphorical throat and create a disruptive reflux. The disgorged we will reassemble into new potentials.

We will inspect the core elements of performance and explore methodologies that emphasize the significance of embodiment. It will be important to have a look at the dynamics between performers and audience, as well as the concept of shared space.

Designing for Humans is a course designed to teach students about the concept of design thinking as a tool for solving problems and to introduce them to the concepts of behavioral science and systems thinking in creating human-centric solutions while considering human needs and requirements. While “Open Sessions“ invites participants to explore and develop their own spatial and artistic ideas as well as material/media processes, the focus is on methods of collective feedback and critique: In regular meetings and following a non-hierarchical structure of different and changing roles and steps, we learn about and discuss the approaches and processes presented by the participants.

Set up as a collective format, “Open Sessions“ encourages the active participation and contribution of all in all. We aim to reframe teaching/learning and shift perspectives by establishing a common platform for critical collaborative thinking, research, and process-based production. Together we address the blind spots of Western academia, its inclusions and exclusions, its systems of recognition and de-recognition.

Wenn wir mit Holz arbeiten, dann ist damit meistens eine vorverarbeitete Form gemeint, sei es als Balken, Brett oder Furnierplatte. Dabei hat Holz in seiner natürlich gewachsenen Form eine inhärente Stärke. Diese auszuloten und durch konkrete Materialstudien zu validieren, bildet die Grundlage dieses Kurses. Der Kurs ist offen für Studierende aller Disziplinen, die ein Interesse am Arbeiten und Entwerfen mit Holz haben. Während des Semesters werden Sie in kleinen Gruppen verschiedene Entwürfe für einen Pavillon/eine Tragstruktur aus naturbelassenen Schwachhölzern erstellen und in den Semesterferien in einem zusätzlichen Kurs als Workshopwoche im Thüringer Wald im 1:1-Maßstab umsetzen. Designseminar und Workshop werden gemeinsam mit Studierenden der FH Erfurt durchgeführt. Im Laufe des Semesters wird es eine Tagesexkursion in den Thüringer Wald und Inputs zum 3D-Scannen und zur AR-gestützten Planung und Fertigung geben.

We* have been bad at discussing racism at our university, attributing it to other mindsets, other times, somewhere outside the school, outside the art, design, science, and bureaucracy we (re)produce. We have been aggressively careful not to address it at all, as if the mention of racism is more offensive than the fact of it. In a symposium with student initiatives from different universities and through lectures, workshops, and actions we want to confront this so-called “white fragility”. The aim is to become strong enough to dismantle racism at the university, not only as it circulates through individual attitudes and behaviors, but more importantly as a structural or systemic condition and a set of social, conceptual, and epistemic routines and rules.

In East Asia, comics are unique medium that influences social transformation and socio-economics structures. Based on the success of East Asian comics, we explore the potential social functions of comics in various aspects for our own community.

This course has two perspectives. From the standpoint of readers/observers, participants analyze the social impact of comics on politics, economy, and technology through the history, the comic industry, and the business model of East Asian comics.

From the author's perspective, participants will learn through practical exercises, procedures, narratives (comics storytelling: mise-en-scènes on paper), the use of classical tools, and idea management. In this course, participants are encouraged to create comics as a means of communication by analyzing and collectively reflecting on identity and behaviors to solve problems, thereby developing personal expression (style). This engagement with comics is complemented by a workshop.

Die Lehrveranstaltungsreihe soll dazu dienen, verschiedene bzw. spezielle Gebäude und Konstruktionen des historischen Bestandes kennenzulernen und baukonstruktiv zu verstehen. Dabei sollen vorrangig geplante und umgesetzte Bauvorhaben vorgestellt werden, anhand derer ausgewählte Aspekte der Erhaltung und Instandsetzung von Bauwerken praxisnah und anschaulich vermittelt werden. Es wird dabei auf die Leistungen der Tragwerks- aber auch auf die Belange der Objektplanung eingegangen, was sowohl Ingenieur*innen, als auch Architekt*innen und weitere, an der Gebäudesanierung Interessierte, ansprechen soll. Erwähnung finden sollen auch moderne Planungsmethoden (BIM) sowie technologische Prozesse und Abläufe (Bau- und Montagezustände). Überdies werden für verschiedene Bauweisen und Sanierungsmaßnahmen Kostenansätze genannt.

Ziel ist es, sich für weitere (Wahl)Module im Bereich der Sanierung und der Denkmalpflege vorzubereiten und für diesen sich zukünftig stark und dynamisch entwickelnden Bereich im Bauwesen zu begeistern sowie Möglichkeiten der Ressourceneinsparung durch eine Weiternutzung von Gebäuden und Bauwerken kennenzulernen.

In dem Seminar "bauHOF NGS" setzen wir in einem partizipativen Bau-Workshop Interventionen für einen Hof in Niedergrunstedt um. Ziel ist der Bau von minimalen Infrastrukturen zur Aktivierung des Ortes und die gemeinschaftliche Nutzung. Wir erproben nachhaltiges Konstruieren durch die Wieder- und Weiterverwendung von Baustoffen, entwickeln reversible Fügungen und streben nachhaltiges Bauen mit poetischer Architektur an. Neben handwerklichen Fertigkeiten werden Kenntnisse über Erhaltung, Reparatur, Aufwertung und Wiederverwertung von Baumaterialien vermittelt. Der Bau-Workshop findet in den letzten Wochen des Semesters statt. Motivierte Studierende mit und ohne bauliche Vorkenntnisse sind willkommen!

The module will explore displacement scenarios and how the different scenarios are developing over time. Afterwards, we will explore the different challenges refugees and (forced) migrants encounter in host countries and work on interventions to address them. Different participants from different backgrounds should come up with diverse set of interventions: social, spatial, physical (infrastructure), economic, political and institutional as well as environmental. The course will answer the students on the following questions: What can the different cases teach us and what are our roles as architects, planners, engineers, artists and scientists? Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar identifiziert sich seit der Umbenennung im Jahr 1996 explizit wenn auch kritisch mit der bedeutendsten Phase ihrer Institutionsgeschichte: Das Staatliche Bauhaus Weimar existierte jedoch nur sechs Jahre — zwischen der Gründung im April 1919 und dem erzwungenen Umzug nach Dessau im April 1925. Angesichts dieser Fokussierung geraten mehr als 150 Jahren wechselvoller Geschichte zwischen Kaiserreich, Weimarer Republik, Drittem Reich und DDR aus dem Blickfeld. Und dennoch bestimmen Sie das Profil der heutigen Universität: Warum wurde an der Kunstschule gegründeten Institution ein halbes Jahrhundert lang keine Kunst unterrichtet? Warum etablierte sich erst nach dem Weggang des berühmten Bauhauses eine ordentliche Architekturausbildung in Weimar? Und seit wann entwickelte sich das Ingenieurwesen zu einem bestimmenden Faktor der Weimarer Hochschule?

In dem Seminar »Das Bauhaus, Weimar und der ganze Rest …« wollen wir die Verflechtung der Hochschulgeschichte mit den politischen, sozialen und künstlerischen Umbrüchen seit 1860 beleuchten und dabei wichtige Personen und Werke in den Blick nehmen. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Frage: Welche Aufgabe weisen die verschiedenen politischen Systeme einer Kunst- und Gestaltungshochschule zu und welche personellen und konzeptionellen Akzente resultieren daraus? Das Seminar lädt interessierte Studierende aller Fakultäten und Studiengänge dazu ein, die einzigartige Geschichte unserer Hochschule gemeinsam zu erkunden und sie in der kulturellen Landschaft Thüringens zu lokalisieren.

Das Buch »Kulturtechnik Entwerfen« von Daniel Gethmann und Susanne Hauser beginnt mit dem Satz: »Der Prozess des Entwerfens gilt gemeinhin als geheimnisumwitterte Technik zur Konzeption von zukunftsweisenden Gestaltungsvorschlägen in Architektur und Design.« Doch ein Entwurf kann noch mehr sein - Es gibt Gesetzesentwürfe, Projektentwürfe oder Entwürfe für Seminartexte. 

Die geheimnisvolle Praxis der »Festlegung einer Sache in wichtigen Punkten« (Definition Oxford Languages) lässt dennoch offen welche »wichtigen Punkte« gemeint sind und zeigt so, dass sich jeder Entwurfsprozess anders gestaltet. Kann man überhaupt von einer Theorie des Entwurfs sprechen? Oder ist jeder Entwurf und seine zugehörige Methode einzigartig? Im Seminar besprechen wir Texte, die sich mit den historischen und philosophischen Voraussetzungen beschäftigen, warum wir entwerfen und mit welchen Mitteln, bzw. welchen Status der Entwurf zwischen der Idee und dem fertigem Projekt/ Produkt einnimmt. Crying in cinema, standing hypnotized in front of a painting, feeling the tingling euphoria during a theatre show, finding a home in a song: Emotional experiences in art reception often become significant reasons to get involved into artistic practices. While watching, listening, participating we get touched by something so profoundly we start to do it on our own. We are working artistically to express something, which eventually should/would/could be able to reach and touch others. But who are they?

The class explores playful ways of artistic practice reflecting on the potential reception of our works. We try to describe, explore and (re)build the relationships between the artist and their mysterious vis-à-vis’ : the recipients.

Generative models are already widely applied in art and design and their applications lead to new creative techniques like prompt engineering and model fine-tuning. In consumer contexts, it is frequently promoted for its unlimited creativity and its nearly magical ability to transform text into images, images into videos, and more. But what are the limits of working with generative models in physical production, and how does its wide range of digital possibilities connect with real-world production processes?

In this course, participants will engage available models and tools, such as text and image-to-3D models, and develop an experimental pipeline from generative AI to physical production. Participants will receive a brief history of recent developments in generative models and definitions of key terms, gain insights into widely used additive manufacturing techniques and materials, as well as specialized areas in current or developing fabrication technologies. Additionally, they will be introduced to several 3D and slicer software.

We'll examine the dynamic and iterative exchange between humans and machine learning systems, investigate the complexities presented by non-transparent interfaces, and explore the open-ended and indeterminate future of generative AI applications. The approach we will adopt involves learning by doing, testing various generative tools through practical work, and overcoming obstacles in the process of producing physical objects, we will encounter questions that lead to discoveries.

In the midst of diverse global challenges, social conflicts and individual insecurities, the “Campus of Tomorrow” represents an open space for interdisciplinary exchange on new forms of collaborative and experimental learning. In this imagined site, set in the current context of the Bauhaus University Weimar, we want to address the general uncertainty of our time by questioning the role of the university as an institution for generating and imparting knowledge. In this module we will develop collaborative artistic interventions that demonstrate a transformative potential, in order to explore the specific qualities of artistic strategies and their ability to shape and design sustainable and future-orientated learning spaces. The goal of this interdisciplinary collaboration is to achieve an imaginative shift where creative interventions can lead to spatial and structural change. Here, a superimposition of past, present and future creates a laboratory in which the future can be experienced in the now.

Der Workshop baut auf den Entwürfen aus dem „IrreguLab – Holz neu denken“ Seminar auf, kann jedoch auch unabhängig hiervon gewählt werden. In diesem einwöchigen Workshop werden wir gemeinsam mit Studierenden der FH Erfurt einen Teil der entwickelten Entwürfe im Maßstab 1:1 bauen. Dabei wird der gesamte Prozess von der Entrindung der Hölzer über die Herstellung der Holzverbindungen bis zur Fügung und Errichtung der Gesamtstruktur durchlaufen.  Die Handwerkzeuge werden unterstützt durch ein digitales Entwurfsmodell, welches mithilfe von Augmentierung mit Hololens Brillen räumlich im 1:1-Maßstab auf den Bauplatz projiziert wird. Hier werden die Studierenden erlernen, welche Möglichkeiten durch diese Kombination von Handwerkzeugen und der Präzision von digitalen 3D-Modellen als virtuelle Bauanleitung entstehen.

Kunstlicht ermöglicht uns den Tag zu verlängern und auch ohne natürliches Licht aktiv zu sein. Trotz umfassender Nutzung energiesparender LED-Beleuchtungen ist von einem Trend verringerten Energieverbrauches nichts zu spüren. Im Gegenteil scheint die Sorglosigkeit im Umgang mit künstlichem Licht ungebrochen. Im Kontext von gestalterischem Anspruch, normativen Festlegungen und postulierten Sicherheitsanforderungen ist es immer schwerer, Angemessenheit zu wahren.

Das Modul beschäftigt sich mit Licht. Wir werden uns dem Thema auf verschiedene Weise nähern. Neben theoretischen Grundlagen zur visuellen Wahrnehmung, den physikalischen Grundgrößen und Technologien zur Lichterzeugung ist die Nutzung digitaler Methoden zur Simulation von künstlichem Licht geplant.

Theoretische Schwerpunkte des Modules sind:

• Physikalische Grundgrößen in der Lichttechnik
•  Messmethoden
• Physiologische Grundlagen, visuelle Wahrnehmung
• Erzeugung Künstliches Licht
• Planung von Tages- und Kunstlicht

Im praktischen Teil des Moduls wird an vorgegebenen kleineren Übungsaufgaben die Planung künstlicher Beleuchtung unter Beachtung normativer Vorgaben und eigener gestalterischer Ziele erprobt. Die Aufgaben können sich auf einen Bauwerks-, Raum- oder Nutzungstyp beziehen. Außerdem wird die Beleuchtung von Außenräumen wie Verkehrsanlagen oder Stadtplätzen in einer Nachtwanderung durch Weimar besprochen. Angefragt, jedoch noch ohne Termin ist eine mehrtägige Exkursion zum Produktionsstandort des Leuchtenhersteller ERCO.

Die Simulationen finden mit der kostenfreien Software Relux statt. Die Ergebnisse werden in Präsentation allen Teilnehmenden erläutert.

Das Vogtland, eine Region die Teile von Ostthüringen, Südwestsachsen, Nordostbayern und Nordwesttschechien umfasst, ist bis heute gezeichnet von industrie-kulturellen Zeugnissen in Ziegelbauweise, die wesentlich das Verständnis der Region prägen. Im Fokus steht das Göltzschtal, das von der Göltzschtalbrücke als eines der größten Ziegelbauten weltweit überspannt wird. Verbunden mit dem Bau dieses industriekulturellen Erbes stehen Fragen nach der Rohstofflage und -eignung, Transportmöglichkeiten, Produktionsbedingungen und -abläufen sowie der baukünstlerischen Verarbeitung. 
In dem Blockseminar Ziegel-Praxis setzen wir uns mit dem Ziegel als Grundbaustein des industriekulturellen Erbes und den lokalen Tonlagerstätten und Produktionsabläufen auseinander. Das Bauhaus-Modul ist eine Kooperation der Professur Werkstoffe des Bauens und der Professur Landschaftsarchitektur und -planung.

The course is open to all Bachelor and Master students of the faculties of Architecture and Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Art and Design, and Media as part of the “Bauhaus.Modules”.
