In diesem Modul geht es um die Geschichte, Theorie und Praxis von Erzählformen, die mehrere mediale Darstellungsformen nutzen. Während unter dem Schlagwort ”Multimodalität” gerne mediale Praktiken des 21. Jahrhunderts verwendet werden, wollen wir in diesem Seminar auch vor-digitale Medienformen in den Blick nehmen, um dann eine Kartierung möglicher Erzählformen in der Gegenwart vorzunehmen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen hierbei Bildromane, Comics, Graphic Novels und andere sequentielle grafische Erzählformen. Ausgehend von einer grundlegenden Beschäftigung mit Theorie und Geschichte des grafischen Erzählens sollen Studierenden selbst analytische Betrachtungen in diese spezielle Form von Kommunikation aus Text und Bild übersetzen.

Eventformate wie Ausstellungen, Konzerte, Performances oder Interventionen sind reale Begegnungsräume. Das Bauhaus-Modul "Re:connect: open spaces“ fokussiert die Wiederbelebung und Zusammenbringen der studentischen Veranstaltungskultur durch interdisziplinäres Arbeiten und verschiedene Formate. Workshops bieten Raum für die Weiterentwicklung. Themen wie Konzeptentwicklung, Netzwerkarbeit, Lichtgestaltung, Dramaturgie und Veranstaltungsplanung stehen im Zentrum. Aktuelle Debatten, wie Diversity, Community Care und Awareness werden neben Teamfähigkeiten in diesem Blockseminar verhandelt. Kritische Diskussionen über Raum, Gesellschaft, Format und Wirkung von Veranstaltungen in Weimar ergänzen das Programm. Teilnehmende fungieren als Akteur*innen einer neuen Veranstaltungskultur und knüpfen Verbindungen zwischen studentischem und städtischem Leben, dokumentiert wird der Prozess. Ziel ist die Umsetzung der Summaery-Eröffnungsfeier und ggf. weiterer Veranstaltungsprojekte.

Soziale Innovationen verbessern in vielen Bereichen unser gesellschaftliches Miteinander: wie wir zusammenarbeiten, unsere Freizeit gestalten oder auch wohnen. Im Sommersemester 2023 sucht die Gründerwerkstatt neudeli Studierende aller Studiengänge, die im Rahmen einer »Social Innovation Challenge« innovative Lösungsansätze für drängende gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen entwickeln. Praxispartner des Bauhaus.Moduls sind ein Erfurter Unternehmen im Bereich sozialer Wohnungsbau, das soziale und gemeinnützige Angebote unterstützt sowie der Verein Plattform e.V. Das Modul bietet dir die Möglichkeit, Methoden der Innovationsentwicklung (wie bspw. Design Thinking und Prototyping) kennenzulernen und direkt anzuwenden. Als Teil eines interdisziplinären Teams setzt du dich intensiv mit verschiedenen Aspekten des Innovationsprojektes auseinander und stärkst deine Problemlösungskompetenz. Als Coaches der Gründerwerkstatt neudeli begleiten wir dich und dein Team dabei von der konkreten Herausforderung bis hin zur Lösung der »Social Innovation Challenge«. Das Modul umfasst sowohl die Teilnahme an den Seminarterminen (in Form von interaktiven Workshops vor Ort bei den Praxispartnern bzw. digital Konsultationen) als auch die Präsentation der erarbeiteten Ergebnisse in Form eines Abschlusspitches.

What do we create with our tools? What machines do we use? And what does the technology of the future look like?

The aim of the seminar will be to understand the everyday use of machines and tools in order to shape the development of digital technologies. The development in the field of information technology is crucial for the current age and brings new dangers, but also opportunities with it. In order to understand the extent of this change, students should document their principles for an ethical use of technology through a freely chosen form of expression. At the end of the semester, the findings are to be compiled together and published in the form of a manifesto.

The seminar aims at initiating discussions about the critical approaches to the urban gentrification processes in Post-Industrial cities, introducing the historical, theoretical and political context from an interdisciplinary perspective. Production of and resistance against urban gentrification will be investigated through a critical analysis of the imaginations of urban space. To this end, the focus will be discourses, conceptualization and images of post-industrial cities, as well as the practices of resistance against urban gentrification.

Contemporary theories, concepts and methodologies that influenced the critical analysis of urban space will be presented in introductory lectures. In each session, the introduced approaches will be illustrated through case studies and visual materials. Participants will be responsible for contemplating the case studies and concepts discussed during the seminar to engage in the imaginations of post-industrial urban space from a critical perspective, problematizing urban gentrification processes.

Die Lehrveranstaltungsreihe soll dazu dienen, verschiedene bzw. spezielle Gebäude und Konstruktionen des historischen Bestandes kennenzulernen und baukonstruktiv zu verstehen. Dabei sollen vorrangig geplante und umgesetzte Bauvorhaben vorgestellt werden, anhand derer ausgewählte Aspekte der Erhaltung und Instandsetzung von Bauwerken praxisnah und anschaulich vermittelt werden. Es wird dabei auf die Leistungen der Tragwerks- aber auch auf die Belange der Objektplanung eingegangen, was sowohl Ingenieur*innen, als auch Architekt*innen und weitere, an der Gebäudesanierung Interessierte, ansprechen soll. Erwähnung finden sollen auch moderne Planungsmethoden (BIM) sowie technologische Prozesse und Abläufe (Bau- und Montagezustände). Überdies werden für verschiedene Bauweisen und Sanierungsmaßnahmen Kostenansätze genannt.

Ziel ist es, sich für weitere (Wahl)Module im Bereich der Sanierung und der Denkmalpflege vorzubereiten und für diesen sich zukünftig stark und dynamisch entwickelnden Bereich im Bauwesen zu begeistern sowie Möglichkeiten der Ressourceneinsparung durch eine Weiternutzung von Gebäuden und Bauwerken kennenzulernen.

Ziel des Seminars ist es, eine Auswahl geführter Interviews mit Menschen aus Weimar im öffentlichen Raum auszustellen; eine Broschüre zu drucken und Social Media zu bespielen. Einerseits werden wir Menschen auf der Straße ansprechen, andererseits gezielt aufsuchen, um ein möglichst breites Bild der Gesellschaft einzufangen. Dafür verlassen wir unsere Filterblase und erkunden die Welt unserer Mitmenschen; lernen ihre Überzeugungen, Erfolge, Misserfolge, ihre Sicht auf die Gesellschaft und was sie im Leben glücklich bzw. unglücklich macht, kennen. Die Gespräche werden wir als Tonaufnahme mitschneiden, transkribieren und gekürzt- zusammen mit aussagekräftigen Bildern- aufbereiten.

Menschen sind Individuen in einer Gesellschaft – das eine kann aber nicht ohne das andere betrachtet werden. Sind Menschen ganz sich selbst oder ein ´Produkt ihrer Umwelt’? Wie wirken sich gesellschaftliche ‚Bubbles‘ auf die Lebensrealität aus? Um Antworten auf diese Fragen zu finden, werden wir nicht nur unsere geführten Interviews in der Gruppe reflektieren, sondern gemeinsam einschlägige Texte diskutieren und Themen verteilen, die als weiterer Diskussionsinput vorgestellt werden.

Dieses Werkmodul wird Dokumente, Objekte, Apparate und Filme zu der historischen Bauhausbühne in Weimar auswerten und das für eine Veröffentlichung auf der bauhaus.medien.bühnen. labor Website, www.uni-weimar.de/bmblab, zusammentragen. Besonderes Augenmerk soll hier auf Licht, Lichtapparate und Lichteinsatz an der Bühne liegen, mit einer eigenen praktisch-künstlerischen Licht-Apparat-Gestaltung bzw. -Interpretation in analogen und digitalen Medien.

Folgende Fragen stehen hier im Vordergrund: wer waren die Akteure, die die Bauhausbühne gestaltet haben und wo waren die Aufführungsorte? Mit welcher Ausstattung und welchen Werkzeugen wurde an der Bühne gearbeitet und zu welchen Inhalten?

Welche Bedeutung hatten das Licht und die Lichtexperimente an der Bauhausbühne? In welchem Verhältnis stehen sie zu Bühnen-Lichtexperimenten und ‚Expanded Cinema‘ heute? Welche Rolle spielte und spielt die Synästhesie dabei?

The climate crisis is pushing for a new understanding of the environment. Scientific, technical and economic dimensions must be understood as factors of an overarching cultural and aesthetic change, as shown, for example, by the large-scale initiative for the New European Bauhaus. The New Environmental Aesthetics of the recently deceased philosopher Gernot Böhme asks about the prerequisites and perspectives of a humanized nature worth living in, and thus at the same time about the fundamental possibilities of a new relationship to nature. Central to this are atmospheres and atmospheric places of our medial environment, which are to be opened up and created through new forms of perception and design perspectives. The cultural city of Weimar and in particular the park on the Ilm River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offer spatial-historical starting points and access points for these questions, in order to sharpen and experience the concepts of the new environmental aesthetics, as well as to open up points of contact and previously hidden perspectives. As a burning glass of current climatic and social transformations, the park today opens up special and complex design challenges that can be of exemplary character for the search for a New Environmental Aesthetics. In this way, the park will become the spatial point of origin, contemplation, and destination for the search for a New Environmental Aesthetics within the framework of the project and an associated artistic-scientific symposium. The students will be actively involved in the planning and artistic preparation of the event program and a related publication. 

The language of the project is German. However, contributions and examinations can be conducted in English.

Ausstellungen, Konzerte, Projektpräsentationen, Aktionen oder Interventionen: viel (Übung) darin ist während der Pandemie verloren gegangen. Das Bauhaus-Modul "Neustartkultur" widmet sich (in Workshops, Seminaren und Praktika) der Wiederbelebung und Weiterentwicklung der studentischen Veranstaltungskultur in Weimar.

Projektinhalte im Workshopformat reichen von der Konzeptentwicklung über Anmeldung, Finanzierung, Licht- und Tontechnik bis zur Dispositions-Planung und Durchführung von Veranstaltungen. Über diese Kompetenzen hinaus wird in Seminaren kritisch über Fragestellungen des Raumes, der Gesellschaft, des Formates und der Wirkung von Veranstaltungen in Weimar diskutiert. Die Teilnehmenden des Moduls agieren als neue Veranstaltungskultur in Weimar und bauen Brücken zwischen studentischen und städtischen Leben.

Worin liegt das subversive Potential queer-feministischer Pornografie und wie kann queer-feministischer Porn patriarchale Strukturen in unserem Alltag herausarbeiten und aufbrechen? Wie kann queer-feministischer Porn uns helfen, (Re)Produktion normativer Identitätsmerkmale (Körper, race, class, gender, Alter etc.) zu hinterfragen und aufzubrechen?

Ausgangspunkt hierfür ist eine Analyse der Merkmale, Funktionen und Wirk-/ und Machtmechanismen von Porn auf individueller und gesellschaftlicher Ebene, sowie die Auseinandersetzung mit intersektionalen queer-feministischen Kämpfen und deren Geschichte. Hierbei werden wir uns inhaltlich mit Theorien aus den Trans- und Gender Studies beschäftigen. Wir untersuchen wie patriarchale und sexistische Strukturen in unserer Gesellschaft vorherrschen und weiterhin aufrechterhalten werden, und wie dies durch die filmische Methode unterlaufen werden kann. Porn ist hierbei ein Mittel zur Selbstermächtigung und Umkehr bzw. zum Aufbrechen von Machtverhältnissen, Herrschaftsdiskursen und „gesellschaftlich spezifischen Wissensformen”. Das eigene Reflektieren und empowern von Identitätsmerkmalen und vergeschlechtlichter Identitäten steht hier im Vordergrund.

Gemeinsam mit Porndarsteller*innen, Produzent*innen und Regisseur*innen werden wir in Gruppen selbst ein Pornscript schreiben und drehen. Die Umsetzung ist dabei ganz dir überlassen, ob experimentell, künstlerisch, abstrakt, z.B. über Zeichentrick oder Stop-Motion etc.. Mach das, womit du dich wohlfühlst! Wir werden gemeinsam versuchen ein safeR space zu sein. Die Ergebnisse werden wir in einer Ausstellung präsentieren.

Von Porn können wir viel lernen, es sagt uns viel über unsere Gesellschaft, Porn ist Performance Kunst, Porn ist Film, Porn ist empowernd, Porn ist politisch.

In diesem Kurs geht um zweierlei. Zum einen die Beschäftigung mit Recherchen, die sich im Feld des vermeintlich Randständigen bewegen. Sie führen uns ins verklumpte Erdreich, in verdreckte Flussläufe und vergessene Halden. Die zweite Perspektive ist auch eine materiale, wenn auch ganz gelagerte. Wie gehen wir nun um mit dem Gefundenen? Welche Form erscheint uns angemessen, unsere Funde und Überlegungen nun in eine Darstellung zu übertragen? Der zweite Teil dieses Seminars beschäftigt sich mit Zines, Reportagen, Graphic Recording, Magazinberichten und Visual Storytelling als Methode Wissensbestände einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich zu machen.

The subject of the course would be history of diversity through photography. We will analyze through old photographs topics of social awareness such as race, sexuality, social class, body diversity, etc. Were people of color, people with sexual diversity, people with body diversity depict in photographs from that time? If yes, how and why did this happened? Combining photography and literature we will discuss such aspects of history in order to re-make moments that could have been different. As final project, students will recreate old photographs (using performance, architecture models, paint, sculpture, others) changing the aspects they consider important to change to make it more inclusive. The last part of the course would be focus on the use of postproduction photography programs (lightroom and photoshop) so the students learn how to give their new picture a look that is as similar as possible as the original photo.

Humanity is deeply dependent on energy for sustaining life on the planet. Finite sources such as coal, oil, natural gas and lithium are therefore perpetually extracted from the earth's crust in order to harness this life sustaining force. After the profitable resources have been acquired, the remaining land and lives are routinely left discarded, harbouring pollution and ruptured livelihoods. Which raises the question: How to better tend to the aftermath? How can industrial clean-up go beyond measures of containment and mitigation and account more broadly for the multiple losses produced through processes of extraction and help sustainably rebuild damaged ecologies? What could these practices look like and what kind of knowledge would they require? The course—which pivots around three sites of extraction located in China (black coal), Chile (lithium) and Germany (brown coal/ solar energy)—is interested in how to expand current clean-up paradigms. By centering discussions around three specific geopolitical contexts and tracing the ways in which they relate to energy supply chains we will consider what stakes are routinely attended to and which ones are often left out. Through a series of impulse lectures from faculty spanning the study programs at BUW and beyond, the course will reflect more broadly on the value systems embedded within narratives of growth and expansion and speculate on how to better account for its unevenly distributed effects from various knowledge fields and perspectives.

Ein Blick, ein Foto, in Gesichtern seiner Menschen spiegelt sich das Bild der Stadt...oder vielleicht doch nicht? Sind es eher die Häuser, die Straßen, der gebaute Raum? Oder doch eher eine Mischung von alldem? Welche Rolle spielt die Fotografie in Darstellung und Erkundung städtischer Eigenlogiken und der alltäglichen Praktiken von Bewohner*innen einer bestimmten Stadt. Kann Fotografie mehr Methode sein als Dokumentation?

Die Lehrveranstaltung beschäftigt sich mit dem von Stadt und Fotografie. Gerade die an ihren Rändern unscharfe Genres der Stadt- und Straßenfotografie stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt.

Zwischen dokumentarischen Eigenschaften und eine gewisse Schnappschuss- Ästhetik lassen sich mehr oder weniger bewusste Eingriffe im fotografischen
Handeln nicht abstreiten, die Qualitäten sichtbar machen, die über das
Dokumentarische herauszugehen scheinen.

Darüber hinaus eröffnet die Beschäftigung mit Stadtfotografie einen neuen Blick auf die Stadt, auf ihre ästhetischen wie sozialen Phänomene, auf ihre räumlichen wie atmosphärischen Qualitäten, die durch die fotografische Fassung oft erst sichtbar werden.

Die Kunstuniversität bzw. Kunsthochschule als Soziotop ist oft Startpunkt, in jedem Fall ein Akteur dessen, was wir Kunstbetrieb nennen. Wir wollen daher versuchen, das Soziotop besser zu verstehen.

In Gesprächen mit Lehrenden verschiedener Fakultäten der Bauhaus-Universität möchten wir gemeinsam in die jeweiligen Kontexte eintauchen und die Fachbereiche und Expertisen in ihren Spezifika kennenlernen. Pars pro toto wollen wir eine Kartografie entwickeln, die in der Lage sein kann, das Soziotop durch eine Ansammlung von Linien in und durch Vernetzungen, Überschneidungen und Verknotungen nachzuzeichnen.

Inmitten der Situativität des Gesprächs soll uns eine erste "Arbeit im Gelände" (Foucault/Deleuze) gelingen. Wir wollen uns im "Vermessen", im Beobachten der De- und Reterritorialisierungsprozesse üben, was und wie sich aufeinander bezieht, verzweigt und ineinander verfängt. Beim Spurensuchen wollen wir uns von unser aller Fragen anregen lassen.

Computerbasiertes Zeichnen, Modellieren, Drucken etc. sind in unserem Gestaltungsalltag etablierte Verfahren und werden von uns mit Selbstverständlichkeit angewendet. Dabei nehmen wir diese gestalterischen und konstruierenden Techniken und ihre Technologien selten bewusst wahr. Erst bei Fehlfunktionen machen wir uns Gedanken über die Geräte, Methoden und Abläufe. Ein guter Grund, unseren Verfahren und Werkzeugen einer genaueren Betrachtung zu unterziehen. 

Der Kurs ist als Einführung in die (Post)Phänomenologie für Praktiker konzipiert. Wir versuchen, Kunst, Architektur, Design und Ingenieurwissenschaften dahingehend genauer zu bestimmen, inwiefern ihre Technologien bestimmte Verhältnisse zum gestalteten Gegenstand, bestimmte Techniken, Gestaltungsmethoden und Abläufe ermöglichen und verunmöglichen.

Im Zentrum dieses Werkmoduls stehen der Wald und seine Medien. Wald ist als Klima-Akteur, Industriestandort, Wahrnehmungs- und Erholungsraum, eine Entität, an der sich die Vergangenheit ablesen lässt und sich die Zukunft entscheidet. Im Wald verflechten sich verschiedenartige Komplexitäten und Ökosysteme, die verschlungene und mitunter nur schwer zu durchdringende Strukturen bilden. Wald ist Kulturgut, ein mystischer Ort der Fantasie und Material voll Geschichte. Der Wald transportiert, speichert, kühlt, migriert und transformiert.

Ein wesentlicher Fokus des Kurses liegt dabei auf der Betrachtung des Waldes als Geschichtsschreiber und Ort der besonderen Zeitlichkeiten. Wir wollen uns dem Wald mit dem Blick und den Medien verschiedener Akteure und Disziplinen künstlerisch und medien-theoretisch nähern. Neben der Theorie soll mit Experimenten und Feldforschung, der Verzweigung des Waldes entsprechend, eine vielschichtige multi-sensorische Betrachtung vorgenommen werden. Ziel des Projektes ist es, den Wald, seine Akteure und seine Medien besser zu verstehen, und durch künstlerische Interpretationen neue Perspektiven auf Wald und Medien zu ermöglichen. Im Rahmen einer Ausstellung zur Summaery sollen die neu gefundenen Zugänge und Einsichten der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert werden.

Der Kurs „Wortschatz” im Rahmen der gleichnamigen Sprachwerkstatt vom Netzwerk Welcome Weimar, bietet Interessierten die Chance, Deutschkurse für bzw. mit Geflüchteten zu gestalten und durchzuführen. Die Kurse finden wöchentlich 1,5 Stunden in Präsenz statt und werden je nach Zahl der Anmeldungen entweder im Tandem oder in Gruppen stattfinden (erfahrungsgemäß ein bis zwei Lehrende für drei bis zehn Teilnehmende). Personen, die bereits an der Sprachwerkstatt teilgenommen haben und die den Unterricht mit Geflüchteten aus dem letzten Semester fortsetzen wollen, können das gern auf Anfrage tun.

Zusätzlich geplant zu den Deutschkursen sind in diesem Semester ein bis zwei Workshops, eine Infoveranstaltung vor Kursbeginn, drei Termine für Feedback- und Austauschrunden während des Semesters und eine Zertifikatsvergabe zum Kursende. The Workshop, hybrid lecture series, and Exhibition, ”Bauhaus & Beyond: A Global Postcolonial Perspective” calls for a re-examination of ideas, thoughts, methods, and knowledge transfer by taking examples of the Bauhaus’ inverse influences in India, the US, UK, and Germany.

At the meta-level, Bauhaus is a movement that has inspired generations to think outside of the box and interpret knowledge in one’s own context.

The seminar calls to study and explores the postcolonial discourse and multi-transactional exchange of art, architecture, and design to develop a global research perspective. The workshops invite global artists, architects, urbanists, cultural practitioners, and curators to engage in exchange and discussion as well as in mapping, archiving, filmmaking, spatial-curatorial exercises, etc. with an interdisciplinary group of students. These workshops take place in the context of the Bauhaus Year 2023, but more importantly in response to the student protests of the winter. They involve social gatherings, sharing food and drinks.

Through ‘practicing’ with diverse guests, who bring decidedly global and decolonial perspectives, we aim to critically reassess the art and architecture practices, concepts, and pedagogies of Westernized Modernity, as these have reproduced fixed bodies of knowledge, historical and political privileges, with a strong denial of structural patriarchal, colonial and racist hierarchies –even in academia.

Our aim is to initiate a dialogue about global modernisms, decentered practices of modern art and architecture, and transcultural and plural co-existence in the world. The results of the workshops will be accumulated and presented in an exhibition at the Bauhaus-Wochen.

The lecture series invites global guests to rethink transcultural exchange in art and architecture practices. In the centenary year of the 1923 Bauhaus exhibition, our narrow narratives of artistic and architectural modernism are just beginning to be challenged. In order to adopt a global decolonial perspective, we want to engage with a diverse range of artists, architects, urbanists, cultural practitioners and curators, who maintain affective and interpretive practices towards global modernisms.

We consider these practices love –love ”as a political technology, as a body of knowledges, arts, practices, and procedures for re-forming the self and the world” (Chela Sandoval). The aim is to share inner and outer practices, psychic and social processes in the arts and to reassess concepts, categories, institutions, and practices that enable different futures of a complex and intertwined world as well as artistic and architectural pedagogies, politics of care, and anti-colonial practices of a university to come.

Wegen rasant steigender Wohnkosten fürchten viele Mieter*innen Verdrängung, Verarmung oder Wohnungslosigkeit. Gleichzeitig entstehen 30% der deutschen CO2-Emissionen im Gebäudesektor, der damit die Ziele für das Pariser Klimaschutzabkommen deutlich verfehlt. Vor lauter Einfamilienhäusern können die verödeten Böden kaum noch Wasser aufnehmen, geschweige denn Starkregen. Und das Bauministerium verspricht weiter 400.000 neue Wohnungen pro Jahr, wodurch die Klimaziele noch deutlicher verfehlt werden. Die Wohnungs- und Klimakrise spitzen sich zeitgleich zu und verstärken sich gegenseitig. Dies birgt zweifelsohne enorme Sprengkraft.

Und gleichzeitig ist ein Vakuum festzustellen: Es gibt wenige umfassende Untersuchungen zum Zusammenwirken von drängender Wohnungsfrage und eskalierender Klimakrise – geschweige denn, anerkannte soziale Lösungsansätze. Viel zu lang war die Frage der ökologischen Wohnraumversorgung eine Leerstelle in Forschung, Politik, Verwaltung und sozialen Bewegungen, daher gibt es derzeit noch deutlich mehr Fragen als Antworten.

Im Seminar Wohnungsfrage und Klimakrise werden wir aktuelle gesellschaftliche Rahmenbedingungen im Feld der Wohnungspolitik untersuchen, uns mietrechtliche und baupolitische Grundlagen aneignen und nach planerischen Handlungsmöglichkeiten suchen. Seminarbeschreibungstext: Wie viel Macht steckt im ”Stadt machen”? Wie kann Beteiligung machtsensibler aufgestellt werden? Wir werden in diesem Seminar das mobile Partizipationslabor einsetzen, um in zwei Thüringer Städten experimentelle und begehbare Stadtmodelle der Beteiligungskultur zu erschaffen.

Die Urbanothek ist ein Raum, an dem die Gestaltung, Planung und Politik der Stadt für alle erlebbar wird. The lecture series ”Equity at Bauhaus II: Media Edition” explores new impulses at the intersection between digitalization and sustainability in its ecological and social dimensions, including gender, media, and cultural and ethnic theories and practices. We need to reshape and rethink how we will coexist in the future as well as how we work and learn collectively. How can we use the environmental, social, and digital challenges to shape fair and sustainable transformation processes?

The digital transformation offers a unique opportunity not only to develop sustainable policies and modes of living, but also to reflect on diversity, inclusion, gender equality, and theories and practices of race and ethnicity. From a decolonial and intersectional perspective, we will discuss the role of digitalization in environmental, social and governance issues and start a dialogue to ensure that digital technology becomes a driving force for a better quality of life for everyone now and into the future.

Sind wir in eine neue — ästhetische — Phase der Gesellschaft und der Ökonomie eingetreten? Längst jedenfalls wird das Ästhetische nicht mehr nur mit dem engen Bereich der Kunst assoziiert. In den letzten Jahren mehren sich die Stimmen, die ästhetische Praktiken und Phänomene sehr ernst nehmen und ihnen einen wichtigen gesellschaftlichen Stellenwert zuweisen. Für die Wertschöpfung spielen ästhetische Faktoren offenbar eine entscheidende Rolle. 

Im Seminar werden wir klassische und aktuelle Texte zu diesem Thema lesen und diskutieren. Von Diskussionen, wie sie um 1900 zum Thema Luxus und conspicuous consumption geführt wurden, über Warenästhetik, Shopping Malls und Decorated Sheds bis zu gegenwärtigen Diagnosen vom »Ende der Kunstautonomie« könnte das Spektrum dabei reichen. Dabei wird es auch darum gehen, welche konkreten Formen (Waren, Kunst, Architektur) der ästhetische Kapitalismus annimmt.

Die Anpassung urbaner Siedlungsstrukturen an die Herausforderungen des Klimawandels erfordert weitreichende Veränderungen bei Konzeption und Aufbau künftiger Stadtquartiere sowie der Gestaltung moderner Gebäudearchitektur. Dabei verlangt eine zukunftsorientierte Stadtentwicklung interdisziplinäre Verschneidungen aus allen Fachrichtungen der Stadtplanung und des Infrastrukturmanagements. Vor besonderen Herausforderungen stehen derartige Konzepte bei der Umsetzung von Maßnahmen im Bestand. Am konkreten Beispiel einer Industriebrache der ehemaligen Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH am Asbach-Grünzug im westlichen Weimar sollen studentische Zukunftsvisionen für eine nachhaltige Folgenutzung erarbeitet werden. Bereichert werden diese Wahrnehmungen durch externe Eindrücke von Zeitzeugen und künftigen Stakeholdern. Die Problemstellungen sollen aus studentischer Perspektive als kreative Herausforderung betrachtet werden, wobei die Ergebnisse audiovisuell präsentiert werden sollen.

Der Bauhaus Urban Energy Hub soll als Pavillon auf dem Universitätscampus in der Coudraystraße gebaut werden und wird als interaktiver Demonstrator zukunftsweisende Architektur-, Energie- und Nutzungskonzepte repräsentieren. Das Seminar nimmt den vernachlässigten Garten der ehemaligen Pension Haus Bräutigam in Schwarzburg, Thüringen zum Ausgangspunkt, um die Idee eines Gartens aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen heraus zu betrachten. Der Workshop baut auf den Entwürfen aus dem „IrreguLab – Holz neu denken“ Seminar auf, kann jedoch auch unabhängig hiervon gewählt werden. In diesem einwöchigen Workshop werden wir gemeinsam mit Studierenden der FH Erfurt einen Teil der entwickelten Entwürfe im Maßstab 1:1 bauen. Dabei wird der gesamte Prozess von der Entrindung der Hölzer über die Herstellung der Holzverbindungen bis zur Fügung und Errichtung der Gesamtstruktur durchlaufen.  Die Handwerkzeuge werden unterstützt durch ein digitales Entwurfsmodell, welches mithilfe von Augmentierung mit Hololens Brillen räumlich im 1:1-Maßstab auf den Bauplatz projiziert wird. Hier werden die Studierenden erlernen, welche Möglichkeiten durch diese Kombination von Handwerkzeugen und der Präzision von digitalen 3D-Modellen als virtuelle Bauanleitung entstehen.

Wenn wir mit Holz arbeiten, dann ist damit meistens eine vorverarbeitete Form gemeint, sei es als Balken, Brett oder Furnierplatte. Dabei hat Holz in seiner natürlich gewachsenen Form eine inhärente Stärke. Diese auszuloten und durch konkrete Materialstudien zu validieren, bildet die Grundlage dieses Kurses. Der Kurs ist offen für Studierende aller Disziplinen, die ein Interesse am Arbeiten und Entwerfen mit Holz haben. Während des Semesters werden Sie in kleinen Gruppen verschiedene Entwürfe für einen Pavillon/eine Tragstruktur aus naturbelassenen Schwachhölzern erstellen und in den Semesterferien in einem zusätzlichen Kurs als Workshopwoche im Thüringer Wald im 1:1-Maßstab umsetzen. Designseminar und Workshop werden gemeinsam mit Studierenden der FH Erfurt durchgeführt. Im Laufe des Semesters wird es eine Tagesexkursion in den Thüringer Wald und Inputs zum 3D-Scannen und zur AR-gestützten Planung und Fertigung geben.

Das Seminar "Nachhaltige Raumproduktion. Architektur ohne (neu) bauen?" erforscht Formen, Prozesse und Möglichkeiten einer nachhaltigen Raumproduktion. Wie verändern sich Entwurfshaltung, Ästhetik und Planung, wenn Verfügbarkeit und Ko-Kreation im Fokus stehen? Das Format durchläuft drei Phasen: 1) eine theoretische Auseinandersetzung anhand von Fallbeispielen und Texten des aktuellen Diskurses zu Bauwende, Suffizienz und Reparatur, 2) interaktive Gesprächsrunden an verschiedenen Orten mit Expert*innen und 3) eine reflexive Nachbereitung für ein zusammenfassendes Glossar. Dem eigenen Interesse und Engagement folgend, werden dabei Motivationen, Haltungen, Arbeitsrealitäten, (Bau-) abläufe und Herausforderungen aus der Praxis diskutiert.

We live in constant symbiosis with our environment at various scales. However, the symbiosis between human and non-human organisms has been turning from mutualistic into increasingly parasitic relationships, causing great damage to many species, including ourselves. This seminar aims to explore mutualism in the diverse relationships between different beings and things. These relationships have been manifested in several spatial structures, such as dovecotes, where pigeons are given shelter in exchange for their dung as a fertilizer. Together, we will study a variety of symbiotic relationships to understand the mechanisms at play. We will then develop a speculative, symbiotic project within the context of the Weimar university campus.

Das Buch »Kulturtechnik Entwerfen« von Daniel Gethmann und Susanne Hauser beginnt mit dem Satz: »Der Prozess des Entwerfens gilt gemeinhin als geheimnisumwitterte Technik zur Konzeption von zukunftsweisenden Gestaltungsvorschlägen in Architektur und Design.« Doch ein Entwurf kann noch mehr sein - Es gibt Gesetzesentwürfe, Projektentwürfe oder Entwürfe für Seminartexte. 

Die geheimnisvolle Praxis der »Festlegung einer Sache in wichtigen Punkten« (Definition Oxford Languages) lässt dennoch offen welche »wichtigen Punkte« gemeint sind und zeigt so, dass sich jeder Entwurfsprozess anders gestaltet. Kann man überhaupt von einer Theorie des Entwurfs sprechen? Oder ist jeder Entwurf und seine zugehörige Methode einzigartig? Im Seminar besprechen wir Texte, die sich mit den historischen und philosophischen Voraussetzungen beschäftigen, warum wir entwerfen und mit welchen Mitteln, bzw. welchen Status der Entwurf zwischen der Idee und dem fertigem Projekt/ Produkt einnimmt. In dem Seminar "bauHOF NGS" setzen wir in einem partizipativen Bau-Workshop Interventionen für einen Hof in Niedergrunstedt um. Ziel ist der Bau von minimalen Infrastrukturen zur Aktivierung des Ortes und die gemeinschaftliche Nutzung. Wir erproben nachhaltiges Konstruieren durch die Wieder- und Weiterverwendung von Baustoffen, entwickeln reversible Fügungen und streben nachhaltiges Bauen mit poetischer Architektur an. Neben handwerklichen Fertigkeiten werden Kenntnisse über Erhaltung, Reparatur, Aufwertung und Wiederverwertung von Baumaterialien vermittelt. Der Bau-Workshop findet in den letzten Wochen des Semesters statt. Motivierte Studierende mit und ohne bauliche Vorkenntnisse sind willkommen!

We* have been bad at discussing racism at our university, attributing it to other mindsets, other times, somewhere outside the school, outside the art, design, science, and bureaucracy we (re)produce. We have been aggressively careful not to address it at all, as if the mention of racism is more offensive than the fact of it. In a symposium with student initiatives from different universities and through lectures, workshops, and actions we want to confront this so-called “white fragility”. While “Open Sessions“ invites participants to explore and develop their own spatial and artistic ideas as well as material/media processes, the focus is on methods of collective feedback and critique: In regular meetings and following a non-hierarchical structure of different and changing roles and steps, we learn about and discuss the approaches and processes presented by the participants.

Set up as a collective format, “Open Sessions“ encourages the active participation and contribution of all in all. We aim to reframe teaching/learning and shift perspectives by establishing a common platform for critical collaborative thinking, research, and process-based production. Together we address the blind spots of Western academia, its inclusions and exclusions, its systems of recognition and de-recognition.

Where do we begin? Certainly not in front of a blank canvas. Nowadays, a new generation of designers, driven by the need for circularity and resource efficiency, is exploring the incorporation of the "as-found" in their design and making processes. However, the as-found needs a system. Emerging tools now allow us to digitize, systematize, and make accessible found components, materials, and resources for designers. The concept of "inventory-constrained design" reflects the growing importance of sustainable design and contributes to reducing the environmental impact of design processes.

The project "IrreguLab 1: Non-Standard Seriality for Toddler Seating" is the first in a series of projects (and skills courses) within IrreguLab, a transdisciplinary and inter-faculty teaching lab for digital design and fabrication with irregular materials, funded by the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching (StIL). In this project, we will develop and implement designs for children's furniture, experimenting with logics and workflows that transform "worthless" crooked wood into high-quality designs. The wood is dried in a on-campus solar kiln, scanned using 3D scanning, and inventoried in a shared database. We will use this database ourselves as test users by matching and pairing our designs with its components. The term "non-standard seriality" mentioned in the title hence refers less to tailoring towards user needs (as often seen in the discourse on mass customization) and more to designing with non-standardized materials, developing designs and workflows that incorporate this natural variability and even leverage it.

In this project, we will explore in a practical way how technology transfer from science to practice can succeed. Different paths (licensing, collaborative projects, contract research, ...) lend themselves to this transfer, with spin-offs being another path that includes them. Im Zuge der Lehrveranstaltung haben Teilnehmende die Möglichkeit sich mit dem nachhaltigen Baustoff Lehm intensiv auseinanderzusetzen. Dabei sollen Optimierungsansätze erarbeitet werden, welche die Baustoffeigenschaften messbar positiv beeinflussen und so eine breite Anwendung des regionalen und ressourcenschonenden Baustoffs ermöglichen.

Zunächst wird ein grundlegendes Verständnis für das Material aufgebaut, welches anschließend in einem praktischen Teil erprobt und weiterentwickelt werden kann. The work module 'Environment and Synthetism' combines two terms used in art history in order to explore the design of environments and create new environments. The term 'environments' in art theory describes works of art that are located between art, architecture and design. 'Synthetism', in turn, is a term used by Post-Impressionist artists to describe their desire to combine the outward appearance of a natural form and the artist's feelings with aesthetic considerations of line, color and form. Based on the two terms described above, this work module uses various media to create experimental spatial collages and to investigate which spatial qualities can be responsible for influencing the mood of the people interacting in them.

Die Veranstaltung Radverkehrsplanung richtet sich an fahrradbegeisterte Studierende aus den Bereichen Urbanistik, Bauingenieurwesen und Baumanagement sowie Umweltingenieurwissenschaften, die nicht vorrangig in der Vertiefungsrichtung Verkehr studieren. Das Modul besteht aus der Vorlesung „Straßenplanung von Innerortsanlagen” und einem breitgefächerten Seminar zum Thema Radverkehr. Es werden sowohl planerisch, technische Fähigkeiten als auch Kenntnisse in den Themenbereichen Design & Gestaltung von Radverkehrsanlagen, Radverkehrspolitik und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit erworben.

The students will : familiarize with ductile braced frame systems; design steel braced frames for seismic hazard, following modern building codes; reflect on underlying code concepts;  be actively involved in the experiments; become familiar with standardized testing protocols for steel braces; collect, analyze and interpret test data; explore the seismic behavior of steel braces in the full range of elastic-inelastic response, identify yielding and collapse mechanisms; create numerical models for seismic simulations; assess the strengths and weaknesses of alternative numerical models for accurate prediction of the experimental response; conclude on the produced qualitative and quantitative data in a final report.

The work module “FREE_IT - AR monuments to diversity in Weimar” aims to make monuments to diversity visible on the streets of Weimar. To this end, augmented reality technology will be researched and a framework will be created that enables comprehensive exploration and presentation. The work module combines the history of science with media science and media informatics, as well as artistic research and different public spheres. FREE_IT is about renewing our public space and emphasizing diversity with the means of artistic research.

The module takes place as part of the university-wide 'Strengthening Democracy' initiative and in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung.

The question of the value of freedom is closely linked to notions of democracy and participation. Especially in the rural regions of Thuringia, Germany, various threads intersect with the rise of the "New Right," climate change, and slow digitalization, all of which (perceivedly) curtail freedoms and weaken trust in democracy. Participants will engage in conversations with people in rural Thuringia, learning about living conditions, needs, and concerns regarding freedom.

Mit der Umbenennung in „Bauhaus-Universität Weimar” im Jahr 1996 knüpfte unsere Universität an die Tradition des Bauhauses von 1919 bis 1925 an. Die ehemalige „HAB” (Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen), die von 1954 bis 1996 Architekt:innen und Bauingenier:innen in Weimar ausbildete, geriet damit immer mehr in Vergessenheit. Doch welche Rolle spielte diese Zeit für die Entwicklung unserer Hochschule? Welche Traditionen und Strukturen haben sich geändert oder erhalten, und wie haben Studierende, Lehrende und Mitarbeitende die Hochschule in der DDR und danach erlebt? Mit diesem Bauhaus.Modul möchten wir gemeinsam ein Stück unserer Hochschulgeschichte fächer-, epochen- und generationenübergreifend aufarbeiten. In Seminaren und Erzählcafés sind alle eingeladen, die Hochschulgeschichte in Ostdeutschland zu erzählen. Mithilfe der Oral-History-Methode werden Erfahrungen von Universitätsangehörigen und Alumni der „Bauhaus Ost” festgehalten und als bedeutende Quellen für die Zukunft erhalten.

Die Lehrveranstaltungsreihe soll dazu dienen, verschiedene bzw. spezielle Gebäude und Konstruktionen des historischen Bestandes kennenzulernen und baukonstruktiv zu verstehen. Dabei sollen vorrangig geplante und umgesetzte Bauvorhaben vorgestellt werden, anhand derer ausgewählte Aspekte der Erhaltung und Instandsetzung von Bauwerken praxisnah und anschaulich vermittelt werden. Es wird dabei auf die Leistungen der Tragwerks- aber auch auf die Belange der Objektplanung eingegangen, was sowohl Ingenieur*innen, als auch Architekt*innen und weitere, an der Gebäudesanierung Interessierte, ansprechen soll. Erwähnung finden sollen auch moderne Planungsmethoden (BIM) sowie technologische Prozesse und Abläufe (Bau- und Montagezustände). Überdies werden für verschiedene Bauweisen und Sanierungsmaßnahmen Kostenansätze genannt.

Ziel ist es, sich für weitere (Wahl)Module im Bereich der Sanierung und der Denkmalpflege vorzubereiten und für diesen sich zukünftig stark und dynamisch entwickelnden Bereich im Bauwesen zu begeistern sowie Möglichkeiten der Ressourceneinsparung durch eine Weiternutzung von Gebäuden und Bauwerken kennenzulernen.

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar identifiziert sich seit der Umbenennung im Jahr 1996 explizit wenn auch kritisch mit der bedeutendsten Phase ihrer Institutionsgeschichte: Das Staatliche Bauhaus Weimar existierte jedoch nur sechs Jahre — zwischen der Gründung im April 1919 und dem erzwungenen Umzug nach Dessau im April 1925. Angesichts dieser Fokussierung geraten mehr als 150 Jahren wechselvoller Geschichte zwischen Kaiserreich, Weimarer Republik, Drittem Reich und DDR aus dem Blickfeld. Und dennoch bestimmen Sie das Profil der heutigen Universität: Warum wurde an der Kunstschule gegründeten Institution ein halbes Jahrhundert lang keine Kunst unterrichtet? Warum etablierte sich erst nach dem Weggang des berühmten Bauhauses eine ordentliche Architekturausbildung in Weimar? Und seit wann entwickelte sich das Ingenieurwesen zu einem bestimmenden Faktor der Weimarer Hochschule?

In dem Seminar »Das Bauhaus, Weimar und der ganze Rest …« wollen wir die Verflechtung der Hochschulgeschichte mit den politischen, sozialen und künstlerischen Umbrüchen seit 1860 beleuchten und dabei wichtige Personen und Werke in den Blick nehmen. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Frage: Welche Aufgabe weisen die verschiedenen politischen Systeme einer Kunst- und Gestaltungshochschule zu und welche personellen und konzeptionellen Akzente resultieren daraus? Das Seminar lädt interessierte Studierende aller Fakultäten und Studiengänge dazu ein, die einzigartige Geschichte unserer Hochschule gemeinsam zu erkunden und sie in der kulturellen Landschaft Thüringens zu lokalisieren.

Die Vereinten Nationen haben im Jahr 2015 Nachhaltigkeitsziele (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) verabschiedet, die bis zum Jahr 2030 umgesetzt werden sollen. Zu den 17 Zielen gehören unter anderem die Beendigung von Armut, Hunger und Ungleichheit sowie Bildung für alle und nachhaltige Städte. Im Projekt „SDG-Campus“ (https://sdg-campus.de/) entwickeln acht Technische Universitäten in Deutschland zeitgemäße und hochschulübergreifende Lernangebote, um die Nachhaltigkeitskompetenz ihrer Studierenden zu stärken. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf technologiebasierten Lösungen und der Entwicklung von Gestaltungskompetenzen.

The course 'memory to mind' sheds light on the heritage of Nazi history in Weimar and explores how contemporary and participatory forms of public memory can be conceptualised. By analysing existing manifestations of remembrance in public spaces, we question our own habitat. In the case of Weimar and its rural surroundings, we explore the Nazi heritage that can be found at every corner. Together, we visit existing and emerging sites of memory. We document visits, encounters, and our own thoughts on memory, society, and space.

Reading, writing, drawing, counting and calculating are among the elementary cultural techniques. But the various ways of building and dwelling, navigating and transporting, collecting and distributing are just as fundamentally involved in the constitution, transformation, and transmission of culture. The analysis of such processes, the artifacts that guide them, and the media that result from them forms the core of the study of Cultural Techniques. Although certain concepts integral to it draw on archaeological, anthropological or ethnological approaches with a wide historical and geographical scope, the objects of the study of Cultural Techniques are mainly situated within the western world, between antiquity and the present, and implemented in the classic media forms of image, writing, number, and sound. The Bauhaus module Other Cultural Techniques intends to change that. Its goal is to present existing and new approaches to opening up the research field on cultural techniques, to intensify the dialogue with adjacent disciplines, and to contribute to the decolonization of our own bodies of knowledge.

In the lecture series, international representatives of the study of Cultural Techniques, ethnology and archaeology, art history, architecture and urban studies will present a variety of techniques and artifacts from different cultural areas, epochs and fields of knowledge. The focus is on writing practices, design techniques, construction methods, forms of transportation, programming languages, etc., which have not been the focus of research to date. The aim of the lecture series is to provide an insight into the diversity of cultural techniques, to sensitize for the historicity and facticity of cultural assemblages and to draw attention to hegemonic, colonial and post-colonial contexts.

In the seminar, students are familiarized with the history and theory of Cultural Techniques, learn central terms, methods and disciplinary approaches. The aim of the seminar is, on the one hand, to provide students with a basic knowledge and vocabulary in order to critically engage with the diversity of Cultural Techniques; on the other hand, the seminar aims at the joint preparation and follow-up of the contents discussed in the lecture series. The subject of the course would be representation of diversity in animation. How can diversity be represented in animation? Is the form of representation in animation inclusive? Animation is a media which has enormous possibilities to expand and explore inclusion and diversity. As it is often used for content for children it might tackle bias and promote respect and care where diversity is the foundation. It is also no longer necessary to link animation exclusively with children's content, therefore it offers also the possibility to deal with taboo subjects, violence, conflicts suffered by minority communities and through the infinity of forms of representation it offers the possibility of reflection and the possibility of addressing diverse audiences.

Through reading, analysis of case studies and practical exercises, students will create a series of animated comic vignettes where the inclusion of diversity is key.

Um die wertvollen Bergwiesen langfristig zu erhalten, braucht es wirksame Nutzungskonzepte und Ideen: welche „Rohstoffe“ liefern die Bergwiesen des Thüringer Waldes eigentlich? Wofür können diese genutzt werden? Ist es das Heu, aus dem neuartige Materialien gewonnen werden, der frische Grünschnitt, der zu einem life-style-Produkt wird oder die Bewirtschaftung selber, die als temporäres Angebot Garant für eine Auszeit ist? Hier kommst du ins Spiel! Gemeinsam mit Studierenden anderer Fachrichtungen findest du innovative Lösungen, mit denen man die wertvollen Rohstoffe der Bergwiesen sinnvoll weiter nutzen kann. Das Seminar „a search for BODIES” möchte eine Raum eröffnen um unser Verständnis von „Körper/n” gemeinsam zu hinterfragen und zu diskutieren. Um diese großen Fragen auf den Umfang eines Seminars anzupassen möchten wir uns konkret mit den Fragen „in welcher Form beeinflusst die eigenen Körperwahrnehmung unser Schaffen?” und „was passiert mit meiner Praxis, wenn ich auf die Suche nach der Stellung des Körpers in ihr gehe?” beschäftigen.

Wir teilen das Verständnis, dass unabhängig der Art unseres Handelns, dieses immer durch (den) Körper beeinflusst wird. Daher scheint es uns als um so wichtiger unsere Praxis nach der Stellung von Körper/n zu untersuchen und zu hinterfragen, und Möglichkeiten sichtbar zu machen. Um diesen Prozess zu unterstützen werde Vertiefungsworkshops in den Themenbereichen Wahrnehmung, Körper und Raum angeboten. Diese sollen uns neue Impulse geben um die Suche nach dem Körper in der eigenen Praxis zu vertiefen. Die Workshops werden in den Bereichen: Gips, Tanz, Performance und Spaziergängen stattfinden. Zusätzlich soll es auch die Möglichkeit geben sich mit Körper(-wahrnehmung) auf theoretischer Ebene auseinanderzusetzen.

Die Studierenden sollen innerhalb des Seminars herausarbeiten was die Wahrnehmung von Körper im und durch Raum für Ihre Praxis bedeutet. Als Ergebnis sollen alle Studierenden eine reflektierte und individuelle Antwort auf die Frage: „Was ist der Körper in deiner Praxis?” präsentieren können. Hierbei ist es erwünscht, dass die eigene Praxis als Beispiele oder Gegenstände hinzugezogen wird.

As a Bauhaus.Modul, "Summer in the Garden" invites participants to explore the concept of the allotment garden. Depending on the interests of the group, we focus on historical, sociological or practical issues. Workshop formats and guest lectures offer an insight into the topic "garden" and different ways of dealing with community gardens. The current use, approach and significance of allotments can be illustrated using the example of an allotment garden in Weimar, which offers the opportunity to develop and try out ideas in practice on site.

Das Das baukünstlerische Erbe der DDR gewinnt seit einigen Jahren zunehmend an Interesse. In sozialen Medien wird die Baukunst der DDR gepostet, geteilt und gelikt. Ohne Kontext und politischen Hintergrund bleibt die Beschäftigung damit oft oberflächlich. Auch in Weimar begegnet uns die Baukunst der DDR im Alltag. 

Ziel des Moduls ist die kritische Auseinandersetzung und Aufarbeitung dieses baukünstlerischen Erbes in und um Weimar. Die Studierenden sollen Objekte identifizieren, ihre Geschichte recherchieren und die Objekte historisch kontextualisieren. Ergebnis soll eine Aufarbeitung der gesammelten Informationen sein, die es auch Laien ermöglicht, sich zu den Objekten zu informieren und sich mit ihnen auseinanderzusetzen. Die Rechercheergebnisse sollen dazu in kreativer und anschaulicher Art (bspw. Stadtkarte, Website oder Ausstellung u. ä.) einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich gemacht werden. Den Teilnehmenden des Moduls ist dabei freie Hand in der Gestaltung gelassen. Die Ergebnisse des Seminars sollen bei der Summaery 2023 vorgestellt werden.

Das Vogtland, eine Region die Teile von Ostthüringen, Südwestsachsen, Nordostbayern und Nordwesttschechien umfasst, ist bis heute gezeichnet von industrie-kulturellen Zeugnissen in Ziegelbauweise, die wesentlich das Verständnis der Region prägen. Im Fokus steht das Göltzschtal, das von der Göltzschtalbrücke als eines der größten Ziegelbauten weltweit überspannt wird. Verbunden mit dem Bau dieses industriekulturellen Erbes stehen Fragen nach der Rohstofflage und -eignung, Transportmöglichkeiten, Produktionsbedingungen und -abläufen sowie der baukünstlerischen Verarbeitung. 
In dem Blockseminar Ziegel-Praxis setzen wir uns mit dem Ziegel als Grundbaustein des industriekulturellen Erbes und den lokalen Tonlagerstätten und Produktionsabläufen auseinander. Das Bauhaus-Modul ist eine Kooperation der Professur Werkstoffe des Bauens und der Professur Landschaftsarchitektur und -planung.

Der Bauhaus Urban Energy Hub soll als Pavillon auf dem Universitätscampus in der Coudraystraße gebaut werden und wird als interaktiver Demonstrator zukunftsweisende Architektur-, Energie- und Nutzungskonzepte repräsentieren. Der Pavillon wird zugleich als prominenter Treffpunkt an der Universität fungieren, in dem Studierende, Forschende und Besucher*innen zusammenkommen. This is an invitation to explore the subversive potential of performance art. Our starting point will be Pipilotti Rist’s provocative statement "Ich kotze. Jetzt ist was andres auf dem Tisch.“ Based on this motto, we will explore strategies to refuse to digest, toss up the status quo, and put something new on the table. Performance will be our medium to point the finger, stick it down the metaphorical throat and create a disruptive reflux. The disgorged we will reassemble into new potentials.

We will inspect the core elements of performance and explore methodologies that emphasize the significance of embodiment. It will be important to have a look at the dynamics between performers and audience, as well as the concept of shared space.

Hausbesetzungen und die damit verbundenen Subkulturen sind eine wesentliche Facette der Identität der Stadt Berlin. Seit den 1970er Jahren etablierte sich die Besetzung von Gebäuden als Protestform gegen Wohnungsnot und die Entmietung von Altbaukiezen. Einige besetzte Häuser wurden durch Duldung, Mietverträge oder Verkauf letztlich legalisiert, viele andere wurden und werden geräumt.

Gerade in den vergangenen Jahren verschwanden auf diese Weise Stück für Stück Gebäude, Räume und damit auch Milieus, die zum Image der Stadt Berlin gehören („arm, aber sexy”) und auf denen der Erfolg der Hauptstadt beruht. Die Gebäude selbst jedoch bleiben und werden weiterhin genutzt. In Bezug auf die Besetzungsgeschichte steht jedoch die Frage: Was bleibt?

Einige ehemals besetzte und legalisierte ex-besetzte Häuser sind eingetragene Denkmale. Viele wurden gar erst durch diese "Instandbesetzungen" vor dem Abriss bewahrt. Gleichwohl spielen die Besetzungen und ihre materiellen Spuren selten eine Rolle für die Denkmalbegründung. Und auch die unterschiedlichen Formen der Aneignung der Häuser und ihrer architektonischen Substanz durch verschiedene Nutzer*innengruppen über einen längeren Zeitraum sind kaum erforscht.

Crying in cinema, standing hypnotized in front of a painting, feeling the tingling euphoria during a theatre show, finding a home in a song: Emotional experiences in art reception often become significant reasons to get involved into artistic practices. While watching, listening, participating we get touched by something so profoundly we start to do it on our own. We are working artistically to express something, which eventually should/would/could be able to reach and touch others. But who are they?

The class explores playful ways of artistic practice reflecting on the potential reception of our works. We try to describe, explore and (re)build the relationships between the artist and their mysterious vis-à-vis’ : the recipients.

The seminar presents the writings from 1954 to 1966 by Charles Fabri (1899–1968), a Hungarian-born art critic. The study of Fabri's viewpoints from the mid-20th century draws attention to the East-West modernism paradigm. It lays a foundation for further exploration and research of a 'dialogue' between India and central Europe from the 1950s to the 1960s. In his critical and well-informed articles, Fabri explored the ongoing transformations in art and architecture and the intense modernization of India that came with it. This journey showcases a fascinating trajectory from a background in archaeology – to critiquing dance, theatre, architecture, and other arts.

In this course, Charles Fabri's contribution to art & design discourse in India and Europe shall be showcased through video snippet interviews, roundtable discussions, social media engagement, testimonials, and comments/reflections of peers on selected texts.

In diesem Seminar möchten wir einen Raum schaffen, um gemeinsam unsere gestalterischen Praktiken zu betrachten und zu reflektieren. Wir möchte uns konkret fragen: „Welche Beziehungen und Verbindungen entstehen in unseren gestalterischen Praxen?“. Erst wenn wir uns über die Verbindungen, die wir eingehen, bewusst werden und sie differenziert betrachten, können wir entscheiden, inwiefern wir diese gestalten können und möchten. Dem zugrunde liegt die These, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit diversen Beziehungen die Grundlage einer nachhaltigen Zukunftsgestaltung sein kann. Im Verlauf des Semesters möchten wir vom Reden, Hören, Lesen und Sprechen zum Fühlen und Erfahren kommen. Als Lektüreseminar konzipiert wollen wir im Rahmen des Bauhaus.Moduls Auszüge aus Didier Eribons „Rückkehr nach Reims“ (2016) sowie Pierre Bourdieus „Die Feinen Unterschiede: Kritik der gesellschaftlichen Urteilskraft“ (1987) lesen, analysieren und diskutieren. Nach Bourdieu beeinflusst die soziale Herkunft unseren Habitus. Auf Grundlage dessen nähern wir uns der Diskriminierungsform des Klassismus.

Von dem soziologischen Theorem des Habitus ausgehend wollen wir gemeinsam der urbanistischen Frage nachgehen: Wie prägen Erfahrungen von Klassismus die Wahrnehmung von Raum und Handlungsfähigkeit?

Die individuelle gesellschaftliche Verortung, biographischen Erfahrungen und den unterschiedlichen Herkunftsdisziplinen ermöglich uns eine multiperspektivische Analyse der gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse in denen wir leben und agieren. Ein Verständnis über wirkende gesellschaftliche Macht- und Herrschaftsverhältnissen und deren Ausdruck auch in der baulichen Umwelt ist vor allem auch für Planungs- und Beteiligungsprozesse unabdingbar.

Cultural Mapping (CM) promises a new lens to look at socio-spatial dynamics of integration. This block-seminar uses the emerging interdisciplinary CM methodology to investigate newcomers' integration in Weimar—focusing on their individual experiences and interactions with physical and social space. Throughout its four parts (PREAMBLE, FOUNDATION, WORKSHOP and REFLECTION) it will provide an intensive mix of theoretical knowledge, practical experience and interdisciplinary competencies. Participants from various backgrounds (social, cultural, spatial studies, and art & design) will be introduced to CM concepts, methods and processes, for their application to integration issues. With the guidance of invited CM experts, they will be equipped with the tools to explore and document places and communities while revisiting conventional notions of integration.

In East Asia, comics are unique medium that influences social transformation and socio-economics structures. Based on the success of East Asian comics, we explore the potential social functions of comics in various aspects for our own community.

This course has two perspectives. From the standpoint of readers/observers, participants analyze the social impact of comics on politics, economy, and technology through the history, the comic industry, and the business model of East Asian comics.

From the author's perspective, participants will learn through practical exercises, procedures, narratives (comics storytelling: mise-en-scènes on paper), the use of classical tools, and idea management. In this course, participants are encouraged to create comics as a means of communication by analyzing and collectively reflecting on identity and behaviors to solve problems, thereby developing personal expression (style). This engagement with comics is complemented by a workshop.

In the course 4W-Weimar we deal with our current place of study Weimar. We want to deal with the topic of spatial/social segregation and compare and connect subjective & collective experiences with actual findings. For this purpose, we will explore different methods of active observation and perception and try them out in a workshop week at the end of the semester. We want to overcome the specific analytical tools of the respective professions and enable a people-oriented ("caring") engagement with the city of Weimar. We aim to stimulate other ways of thinking and can work towards a performative intervention/ interaction. Together we will take time to explore places in our everyday life that seem unusual, to find out their qualities and to examine their characteristics as spaces of experience and enrichment. The aim is to create a more diverse collective image of the city of Weimar by documenting what is there or through interventions/performances.

Through the review of historical cultural trade unions and the analysis of new associations, as well as delving into the difficulties unveiled by new forms of work; the course aims to explore the circumstances that hinder the regulation of contemporary cultural work in order to build an overview of common needs and demands necessary to counterbalance shared precarious working conditions such as irregular working hours, lack of contracts and non regulated wages.

Regardless of individual disciplines and expertise, the course aspires to shed light on how individual positions can be linked to a common struggle and thus become an instrument of structural change and political agency through speculative collective practices in public space.

Das ehemalige Sommerfrische-Haus Bräutigam im Schwarzatal diente seit seiner Errichtung im Jahr 1907 bis in die 1990er Jahre als Gästehaus. Nach fast drei Jahrzehnten Leerstand arbeitet der gemeinwohlorientierte Verein Haus Bräutigam seit 2019 an der baulichen Instandsetzung des Hauses. Der Verein wurde von einer Gruppe wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter:innen aus der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik initiiert und engagiert sich für die nachhaltige Entwicklung der Region, für modellhaften Um- und Selbstbau, zirkuläre Prozesse und nachhaltige, regionale Baustoffe. Das Haus Bräutigam ist Teil der IBA Thüringen, die 2023 ihren Abschluss findet.

Da das Haus in Bezug auf seine räumlichen und technischen Ausbauten bisher weitgehend unbestimmt ist, kann der Umbau des Hauses experimentell und praxisbezogen entwickelt werden. Das Haus dient als Ort gemeinschaftlichen Lernens und seine Transformation wird zum Lehrplan: In Kooperation mit dem Verein, Expert:innen aus Handwerk und Wissenschaft und lokalen Akteur:innen wird das Haus Bräutigam zu einem interdisziplinären Labor für experimentelle (Um)Baupraxis.

Ausgehend von der historischen Konstruktion des römischen Opus signinum, der Tonscherben und zermahlene Keramik als Zuschlagstoffe enthielt, soll in diesem Seminar ein möglichst aus lokal verfügbaren Materialien hergestellter Terrazzofußboden für das Haus Bräutigam entwickelt werden. Das angeeignete Wissen zur Eignung von Rezyklaten und regional verfügbaren, vorgefundenen Baustoffen für die Terrazzoherstellung, zu Bautechnik und Selbstbau soll in eine How-to-Anleitung überführt und somit an Interessierte vermittelt werden.

Ziel der Blockseminarreihe ist die Auseinandersetzung mit den baustofflichen Eigenschaften verschiedener regional verfügbarer und rezyklierter Baustoffe bis zur Gestaltung und baupraktischen Ausführung eines Terrazzofußbodens. Die Studierenden setzen sich forschend mit Materialeigenschaften und handwerklichen Methoden auseinander und erarbeiten sich kritisch und selbständig ein Verständnis von regionalen Materialkreisläufen und zukunftsfähigen Bauweisen.

Designing for Humans is a course designed to teach students about the concept of design thinking as a tool for solving problems and to introduce them to the concepts of behavioral science and systems thinking in creating human-centric solutions while considering human needs and requirements. The course offers a different perspective on how to think and approach problems while developing solutions.

In diesem Modul soll es darum gehen, den bestehenden Pavillon vor dem Hauptgebäude neu zu denken: reparieren, baulich umgestalten, bespielen. Zum Konzept des Bespielens gehört auch, wie wir Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen im und am Pavillon zusammen gestalten können, was so ein Event mit sich bringt und was für Aufgaben dabei übernommen werden müssen. Neben Handwerks- und Veranstaltungsarbeit möchten wir konzeptionell die aktuellen Probleme rund um „Campus-Gate” angehen. Dafür wollen wir uns mit möglichen Vandalismuspräventionen auseinandersetzen und diese umsetzen. Dabei ist uns wichtig, in einen weiteren Austausch mit der Uni zu treten, um nicht zuletzt die Standortfrage des Pavillons zu klären.

The module will explore displacement scenarios and how the different scenarios are developing over time. Afterwards, we will explore the different challenges refugees and (forced) migrants encounter in host countries and work on interventions to address them. Different participants from different backgrounds should come up with diverse set of interventions: social, spatial, physical (infrastructure), economic, political and institutional as well as environmental. The course will answer the students on the following questions: What can the different cases teach us and what are our roles as architects, planners, engineers, artists and scientists? What can we do to make use of (forced) migrants for the progress of cities social transformation? The course welcomes all the students of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Wie steht es um der erste Nachhaltigkeitsziel der Vereinten Nationen, die weltweite Armut bis 2030 zu halbieren? Welchen Beitrag können Studierende, Hochschulen oder Technologien leisten, um dieses Ziel zu erreichen? Dieses Modul liefert eine grundlegende Einführung in die Themen Armut, Strategien gegen Armut sowie die Nachhaltigkeitsziele der Vereinten Nationen (Sustainable Development Goals, kurz: SDG).

Der Selbstlernraum zum SDG 1 – Keine Armut wird in diesem Bauhaus-Modul vorgestellt, durchlaufen und mit deinem Feedback weiterentwickelt. Als Einführungskurs mit kombiniertem Online-Selbstlernraum steht er allen Studierenden, unabhängig von Fachrichtung oder Vorwissen offen. Du lernst dabei, was (extreme) Armut bedeutet, wie und warum diese entsteht und welche globalen Handlungsmöglichkeiten im Angesicht vielfacher Krisen bestehen.

Das Seminar ist eingebettet in das Verbundprojekt ”Open T-Shape” (sdg-campus.de), an dem sich die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und viele weitere Hochschulen beteiligt. Ziel ist die Entwicklung eines hochschulübergreifenden, kooperativ entwickelten Kursangebotes zu den SDGs.

In the midst of diverse global challenges, social conflicts and individual insecurities, the “Campus of Tomorrow” represents an open space for interdisciplinary exchange on new forms of collaborative and experimental learning. In this imagined site, set in the current context of the Bauhaus University Weimar, we want to address the general uncertainty of our time by questioning the role of the university as an institution for generating and imparting knowledge. In this module we will develop collaborative artistic interventions that demonstrate a transformative potential, in order to explore the specific qualities of artistic strategies and their ability to shape and design sustainable and future-orientated learning spaces. The goal of this interdisciplinary collaboration is to achieve an imaginative shift where creative interventions can lead to spatial and structural change. Here, a superimposition of past, present and future creates a laboratory in which the future can be experienced in the now.

The Quarry is a place where stones are transformed from their geo-natural existence into a cultural object. In the Ehringsdorf travertine quarries, the natural and cultural intersections add up: The travertine quarried here is famous for its beauty and can be admired in many buildings in Weimar and therefore played an important economic role during its active use. The quarry also represents an important geological research object, since Travertine is a limestone sedimentary rock in which flora and animal and human fauna dating back thousands of years have been fossilized; Today, the Ehringsdorf quarries are best known for the spectacular archaeological findings of remains of the "Ehringsdorfer Altmensch". Finally, the abandoned quarries are also a destination for excursions, which raises questions about the landscape design and ecological after-uses of the abandoned open-cast mine.

The course aims to convey a feeling for the life of a material and the conditions of the cultural utilisation of a natural stone. Students from different disciplines are addressed who are interested in the different perspectives to be taken through the lens of Ehringsdorf travertine: 1. geology of the stone; 2. economics of quarrying, processing and distribution; 3. history of quarrying and applications in Weimar's urban space; 4. forms of design in architecture and sculpture; 5. landscape design of the abandoned quarries.

Generative models are already widely applied in art and design and their applications lead to new creative techniques like prompt engineering and model fine-tuning. In consumer contexts, it is frequently promoted for its unlimited creativity and its nearly magical ability to transform text into images, images into videos, and more. But what are the limits of working with generative models in physical production, and how does its wide range of digital possibilities connect with real-world production processes?

In this course, participants will engage available models and tools, such as text and image-to-3D models, and develop an experimental pipeline from generative AI to physical production. Participants will receive a brief history of recent developments in generative models and definitions of key terms, gain insights into widely used additive manufacturing techniques and materials, as well as specialized areas in current or developing fabrication technologies. Additionally, they will be introduced to several 3D and slicer software.

We'll examine the dynamic and iterative exchange between humans and machine learning systems, investigate the complexities presented by non-transparent interfaces, and explore the open-ended and indeterminate future of generative AI applications. The approach we will adopt involves learning by doing, testing various generative tools through practical work, and overcoming obstacles in the process of producing physical objects, we will encounter questions that lead to discoveries.

Studierende denken über ihr Leben als Projekt nach. Wie beim klassischen Projektmanagement können Ziele und Inhalte definiert, Finanz- und Zeitpläne aufgestellt werden. Man kann sich aber auch diesem rationalen Zugang verweigern und andere Vorgehensweisen oder Methoden entwickeln, um das, was man von seinem Leben erwartet, auszudrücken. Die Vorstellungen der

Teilnehmenden sollen als eine Art Collage in einer Performance ihren Niederschlag finden, die zur summaery am Ende des SoSe 2022 aufgeführt werden soll.

Das Modul versucht, die Medienwissenschaft aus der Perspektive der feministischen Theorie zu denken und einen Überblick über diese Lesart zu vermitteln: Wir stellen uns die Frage, wie jene Ansätze produktiv gemacht werden können, um den Gender-Aspekt unserer medientechnischen Umwelt zu erforschen. Hierbei dienen unter anderem audiovisuelle Unterhaltungsmedien – die produktiv den Diskurs mitprägen und aktiv patriarchale Verhältnisse und Machtgefüge herstellen – als Gegenstand der Untersuchung. Neben der Arbeit am Text sollen dabei insbesondere Praktiken der Videografie als feministisches Werkzeug zum Einsatz kommen, um erlerntes Wissen kreativ zu vertiefen, zu erweitern und zu spezifizieren.

Das Studienmodul besteht aus einem Praxisseminar und einem Theorieseminar.

What are the relationships between political and social change, and how higher education deals with it? Who is entitled to be involved at all? What role do anti-capitalist, ecological, queer_feminist as well as decolonial teaching play in promoting social change? How can we build ethically and politically responsible universities under the drastic conditions of neoliberal privatisation of higher education? Together with speakers from universities in the north and east of Syria (Rojava), as well as model projects of Zapatistas and the experiences and achievements of student organisation in Chile, Hong Kong and Greece, as well as model projects from Germany (e.g. filmArche Berlin), we will address the above questions and develop new models and concepts to address these issues.

Transformative Justice (TJ) ist ein Ansatz, der sich mit einer Antwort auf (sexualisierte) Gewalt in unseren Umfeldern befasst. Dabei steht nicht die Bestrafung der gewaltausübenden Personen im Vordergrund, sondern die Unterstützung der Betroffenen und die Veränderung gesellschaftlicher Strukturen, die (sexualisierte) Gewalt begünstigen. Dieser Ansatz wurde von Trans* Personen und BIPoCs entwickelt, um langfristig gemeinsam gegen Gewalt vorzugehen und Sorgenetzwerke aufzubauen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf antirassistischen und queer-feministischen Ansätzen wie SafeR Spaces und Awareness-Teams. In zwei ganztägigen Paneels wird durch externe Referent*innen, umfassende Literatur und interaktive Workshops ein gemeinsames lernen ermöglicht.

Das Verhältnis zwischen den zwei Institutionen: Universität und Gefängnis, Gefängnis und Universität, ist vielleicht wie kein anderes geprägt von dem Ausbleiben eines weitreichenden Diskurses. Während die Universität für viele oftmals unter der Obhut des Liberalismus für ein unumstößliches Freiheitsstreben innerhalb des Bestehenden steht, werden Gefängnisse in unsere Gesellschaft eher als ein marginalisiertes Thema verhandelt, welches jedoch gleichfalls Pfeiler einer bestehenden Ordnung abbildet und nicht weniger als erstgenannte Institution, Mechanismen des Bestehenden reproduziert. In jedem Fall sind "das" Gefängnis und "die" Universität jedoch zwei Institutionen, die ganz unterschiedlich verhandelt werden, meist jedoch nicht in Beziehung zu einander. Das wollen wir gemeinsam mit euch verändern, indem wir das Gefängnis in den universitären Diskurs tragen wollen.

Was passiert mit Materialien, die uns ausgedient haben und ihre primäre Funktion nicht mehr erfüllen können? Mit RESTPOSTEN wollen wir Überreste vergangener Projekte, die in den Werkstätten und Professuren Staub ansammeln, wieder in einen aktiven Materialkreislauf integrieren.

Durch die Bewertung ihres Zustands und Katalogisierung möchten wir diese Ressourcen wiederbeleben und auf einer Plattform oder einer Pinnwand uns Studierenden zugänglich machen. Dazu wollen wir unser Verständnis für zirkulären Materialgebrauch vertiefen, gemeinsam in Inputs und Diskussionen mit verschiedenen Akteur*innen aus der Praxis. Um die Grundlage für einen langfristigen Materialzyklus zu schaffen, brauchen wir die aktive Beteiligung von Studierenden aus unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen. Eure vielfältigen Betrachtungsweisen und Erfahrungen sowie euer Verständnis von Nachhaltigkeit sind erforderlich, um gemeinsam innovative Lösungen für einen nachhaltigen Umgang mit Materialien zu entwickeln.

"Waiting at HBF" is a practice class in English open for all students, with a focus on theory and methods of creating a (textual) collective art work in public space. The class is run in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (DB), with the aim of installing the final artwork in DB windows at Weimar main train station.

In 2022, the art collective ruangrupa curated the 15th edition of Documenta, by inviting other collectives to share their practices and creation processes. What methods do collectives employ in order to create a work together? In what way is an art work collective? We learn about this topic first hand from Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono (ruangrupa), guests in our class.

This class employs the method of site-writing, developed by professor Jane Rendell, a guest in our class, in order to create a collective art work on paper. In what way can the experience of waiting be translated into text? How does one install text sculpturally? How do we work with text differently when text is a medium to create art? How do we wait? What meanings does waiting have for different people at different times? Who is at the train station? How does one create an art work addressing this specific public? What are things to consider when creating art in public space? Students learn to work collectively, practicing communication across fields and working on organizing an exhibition, from concept and communication, to exhibition construction and deconstruction.

Even if many people assume so: human rights are not just a matter for the United Nations! Instead, cities and local civil society can also do a lot to ensure that human rights and sustainability goals are promoted and implemented on the municipal agenda. To delve into this topic, we will read and discuss selected literature, as well as talk to guest speakers. We will learn some basics about human rights as a field of study, and particularly about the subject of localization of human rights and how it can be applicable to our immediate environment. The result of the course will be a project related to Weimar from the perspective of human rights at the local level presented at the Summaery.

Am 26. Mai 2024 werden in den thüringischen Städten, Gemeinden und Landkreisen die Kommunalvertretungen neu gewählt, teilweise auch (Ober-)Bürgermeister:innen und Landrät:innen. Bundesweit blicken viele mit Sorge auf diese Wahlen, die vor allem als Stimmungstest für die Landtagswahlen im Herbst angesehen werden. Aber stimmt diese Vorstellung einer Dominanz überlokaler Themen und parteipolitischer Erwägungen bei einer Wahl, bei der darüber abgestimmt wird, wer in Gemeinderäten sitzt? In welchem Maße sind für den Wahlausgang nicht Landes- oder Bundespolitik und grundsätzliche gesellschaftliche Wertvorstellungen bedeutend, sondern (auch) lokale Sachfragen zu Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung? 

Um diesen und weiteren Fragen nachzugehen, bietet der Lehrstuhl Raumplanung & Raumforschung ein zweiteiliges Seminar an, das aus gemeinsamen Forschenden Lernen, inhaltlichen, theoretischen und methodischen Inputs sowie Austausch und Diskussion besteht. 

Im ersten Teil, der bereits im Februar startet und bis Mai dauert, steht die Vorbereitung und Durchführung des Lehrforschungsprojekts im Vordergrund. Ausgehend von theoretischen Grundlagen und einer Annäherung an die aktuelle gesellschaftspolitische Situation wird das Forschungsprojekt gemeinsam konzipiert, die Fragestellung konkretisiert und Methoden ausgewählt. Vor dem und begleitend zum Wahlgang werden die Erhebungen in ausgewählten Thüringer Kommunen durchgeführt.

Nur einen kurzen Moment unterwegs und schon ist klar: Wo wir studieren, ist nicht die Großstadt angesagt, sondern Thüringen. "Wer Land schaf[f]t" fragt am Beispiel des Thüringer Beckens nach den Produzent*innen der Landschaft. Welche Rolle spielen individuelle und kollektive Vorstellungen von Landschaft? Wie und an wen werden diese weitergegeben? Welche Rolle spielen Akteur*innen, die das Land formen? Wer ist überhaupt Akteur*in?

Das Thüringer Becken ist keine idyllische Landschaft, es wird intensiv durch Siedlungen, Infrastruktur, für die industrielle Landwirtschaft und Energiegewinnung genutzt. Nicht zuletzt mit der Klima- und der ökologischen Krise wird die Wahrnehmung der Landschaft als "schön" oder "ideal" herausgefordert. Aber wer lebt auf dem Land? Der Bevölkerungsrückgang in ländlichen Räumen und die wachsenden Städte Erfurt, Weimar und Jena bilden räumliche Gegensätze, die zugleich Ansatzpunkt rechter Narrative sein können.

Im Seminar setzten wir uns bewusst interdisziplinär, unterstützt durch Gastvorträge und eine Tagesexkursion, mit dieser Frage auseinander und visualisieren die Ergebnisse in einer Ausstellung.

Im Seminar "Naturwerkstein in Weimar - Verwendung, Schäden & Sanierung" haben Teilnehmende die Möglichkeit, die theoretischen und praktischen Grundlagen des Bauens mit Naturwerkstein sowie in betreuter Laborarbeit wertvolle Techniken der guten wissenschaftlichen Praxis zu erlernen; vertiefte Fachkompetenz; selbstständiges Erkennen von typischen Schadensbildern und geeigneten Sanierungsverfahren; Vermittlung von Sachverhalten vor Ort durch Stadtrundgänge und eintägige Exkursion mit Besichtigungen von Steinbrüchen und eines Betriebs aus der Natursteinbranche; Erweiterung der Methoden- und Selbstkompetenz sowie der Sozialkompetenz durch Bearbeitung eines vorgegebenen oder selbst gewählten Themas und Referat bzw. Abschlusspräsentation im Team.

Kunstlicht ermöglicht uns den Tag zu verlängern und auch ohne natürliches Licht aktiv zu sein. Trotz umfassender Nutzung energiesparender LED-Beleuchtungen ist von einem Trend verringerten Energieverbrauches nichts zu spüren. Im Gegenteil scheint die Sorglosigkeit im Umgang mit künstlichem Licht ungebrochen. Im Kontext von gestalterischem Anspruch, normativen Festlegungen und postulierten Sicherheitsanforderungen ist es immer schwerer, Angemessenheit zu wahren.

Das Modul beschäftigt sich mit Licht. Wir werden uns dem Thema auf verschiedene Weise nähern. Neben theoretischen Grundlagen zur visuellen Wahrnehmung, den physikalischen Grundgrößen und Technologien zur Lichterzeugung ist die Nutzung digitaler Methoden zur Simulation von künstlichem Licht geplant.

Theoretische Schwerpunkte des Modules sind:

• Physikalische Grundgrößen in der Lichttechnik
•  Messmethoden
• Physiologische Grundlagen, visuelle Wahrnehmung
• Erzeugung Künstliches Licht
• Planung von Tages- und Kunstlicht

Im praktischen Teil des Moduls wird an vorgegebenen kleineren Übungsaufgaben die Planung künstlicher Beleuchtung unter Beachtung normativer Vorgaben und eigener gestalterischer Ziele erprobt. Die Aufgaben können sich auf einen Bauwerks-, Raum- oder Nutzungstyp beziehen. Außerdem wird die Beleuchtung von Außenräumen wie Verkehrsanlagen oder Stadtplätzen in einer Nachtwanderung durch Weimar besprochen. Angefragt, jedoch noch ohne Termin ist eine mehrtägige Exkursion zum Produktionsstandort des Leuchtenhersteller ERCO.

Die Simulationen finden mit der kostenfreien Software Relux statt. Die Ergebnisse werden in Präsentation allen Teilnehmenden erläutert.

Im Fokus steht die kreative Nutzung und Weiterentwicklung der mobilen und solarbetriebenen Klanginstallation ”Soletti”.

Klangkunst als Intervention im öffentlichen Raum möchte in diesem Kurs zunächst mit einer Sensibilisierung von (Zu-)Hören sowie gemeinsamen Hören in der urbanen Umgebung aufmerksam machen. Anschließend möchte der Kurs eine Einführung in die Bereiche Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, sowie Stadt-Raumnutzung anhand von Exkursionen ermöglichen. Als praktische Auseinandersetzung von Intervention durch Klangkunst steht die Arbeit mit der Soletti im Mittelpunkt, durch die kreative Vermittlung von Grundkenntnissen und Techniken (Field Recording, Schnitt und Installation).

”Soletti” ist eine mobile und von Sonnenenergie betriebene 8-Kanal Hörstation. Experimentelle Hörspiele, performative Lesungen, elektroakustische Kompositionen, sowie andere auditive und immersive Experimente können durch den mobilen Einsatz an beliebigen Orten ermöglicht werden.
