Juniorprofessur European Cities and Urban Heritage Looking for a student assistant

We are looking for a student assistant to support our research, starting in November 2024.

The Junior Professorship in European Cities and Urban Heritage is currently looking for a student assistant to support its research "Sheltering (with) care: politics of projecting, constructing, and maintaining emergency shelters for people affected by natural disasters," which aims to explore the politics of preparedness and reactions to natural disasters in cities of Central Asia. The research incorporates the inspiration from STS, material semiotics, and feminist critical theory to study the politics of architecture and questions how care is translated into concrete designs, technological and spatial solutions, documents, regulations, and practices related to sheltering.

The contract comprises a period of 5 months, 15 hours per month and shall commence in November 2024.

Job profile:

You will support the developing of the research topic and fieldwork preparations. Your tasks will mainly comprise the following areas:

- Support in data collection, preparation and analysis

- Conduct literature searches, preparation and analysis

- Support in case study identification and selection

- Support in organizational activities and other issues

Requirements:

- Student of one of the Master programs in urban studies (e.g. M.Sc. European Urban Studies, M.Sc. Urbanistik, M.Sc. IUDD)

- Passion for research and research-related activities (reading, data collection, analysis etc.)

- Interest in (and basic knowledge about) urban studies

- Very good knowledge of English (German is not required)

- Very good knowledge of Office programs (Excel, Word)

- Flexibility, ability to work in a structured and very careful manner, organisational skills

- Ability to work independently
