Urban Sociology Seminar Explores the Meaning of "Home"
Niterói, Brazil – urban sociologist Professor Frank Eckardt, from the Bauhaus University of Weimar, will be leading a seminar titled "Your City: Your Home" (original: "sua ciadade: sua casa") at the Federal University of Fluminense (UFF) from September 25th to October 2nd, 2024. This seminar delves into the multifaceted concept of "home" within an urban context.
Professor Eckardt will guide participants through an exploration of three distinct perspectives on "home": the physical dwelling, the immediate surroundings, and the broader sense of belonging within a city. Through a blend of theoretical and practical sessions, the seminar will examine how architecture, urban planning, and social engagement contribute to creating a sense of belonging in urban environments.
Professor Eckardt brings a wealth of experience to this seminar. His expertise in urban social research promises a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of the relationship between individuals and their urban "homes".
The seminar, organized by the Fluminense Center for Studies and Research (NUFEP), the Graduate Program in Anthropology at UFF (PPGA), and the Laboratory of Metropolitan Ethnography (LeMetro), will be held in Room 564 D at the PPGAU building on the Praia Vermelha campus. The seminar is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, and certificates of participation will be provided.
