This project is aimed to examine how constantly developing information and communication technologies open up possibilities for spatially oriented use. The following three subject areas will be mainly worked on: a. knowledge-based local economies and urban societies, b. use of new media in architectural practices, c. necessary political and social conditions for the socially balanced use of technology.

The transformable barrack is a significant form of building of the modern age, in which the social, technological, and cultural coordinates of this era overlap. Its modular construction principle and the associated demand for universal usability, such as camp architecture, are only some of the related headlines. The barrack played a decisive role in shaping the political space of modernity in the first half of the 20th century.

As a part of the restoration of the Wieland Estate Oßmannstedt (residence of the poet Christoph Martin Wieland and his family in late 18th century in Oßmannstedt, village near Weimar) a digital museum is to be integrated into the exhibition. The use digital media is planned in a way that the technology recedes behind the work and evaporates from the user's perception and thus the evolved atmosphere of the place is preserved. As a result, the visitor receives personalized, portable information devices in the form of PDAs. The PDAs make an offer depending on the visitor's movement in the room or his active input.

Instant messenger applications support informal and spontaneous communication between logged-in users. In this project, a client-server infrastructure for instant messaging will be designed and implemented. For this purpose, a series of seminars will begin by examining some of the existing instant messengers (Particularly, the strengths and weaknesses of their functionality and user interfaces, as well as implementation).

Sensors can be used to detect brightness, movement, temperature, etc. in a room. Based on this data, the situation and conditions of the room can be described and the status of the cooperation process can be derived from it.
