Gold Museum Bogotá: Cosmology and Symbolism Interactive Exhibition

Society is used to the word museum, either by experience or by being common in our vocabulary. We tend to explain what a museum is, based in our own experience and perception; that reminds us of a perfect school visit or a boring experience in a place that we don´t seem to understand. By any means; the word museum "turns on" a memory in our brain and therefore an attitude of what we consider a museum is or its reason to be. Therefore it is very important to understand the role of museums in our society and how their conception/ design affects the relation that we have towards them.

Museums as part of our society have been capable to prevail in time, by being able to reinvent themselves according to the context that they are immerse into. Museums which have been able to successfully transform, have a stronger presence in their society while in other contexts they are tending to be unnoticed by the community.

This Thesis explores the conceptions of Museums in order to understand why in the Colombian society, museums are tending to lose more of their presence. By having a general conceptual framework, this thesis will understand the components of a   Museum and evaluate one collection (Cosmology and Symbolism) of the Gold Museum in Bogota in order to use architecture as a medium that helps to transform the conception of this museum.

The intervention will help the museum to mutate itself in order to re-gain its place in the collective imaginary of the people, through a sensorial experience that explores the idea of performative architecture as a design process that creates new boundaries in architecture.
