In der dicht bebauten Millionenstadt Mailand gibt es eine sieben Hektar große Freifläche, nur zehn Minuten mit dem Zug vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Sie liegt direkt am Bahnhof Bovisa und ist damit ideal geeignet für einen neuen Städtebau der nachhaltigen Mobilität. Hier soll ein verdichtetes Quartier zum Wohnen und Arbeiten enstehen, das durch gute Bahn- und Radverbindungen das Autofahren überflüssig macht. Die Nachbarschaft ist äußerst divers: neben ein- und zehngeschossigen Wohnhäusern, alten Schuppen und neuen Bürogebäuden befindet sich hier der neue Campus des Politecnico, der großen Mailänder Universität.
Es ist unübersehbar, dass Mailand bezahlbare Wohnungen braucht und eine verbesserte Mobilität. Zugleich fehlen wie überall unversiegelte Freiräume, Grünräume, Versickerungsflächen, Kaltluftschneisen und Orte der Biodiversität. Die große Frage, wie der Widerspruch zwischen Wohnungsbau und Klimaschutz zu lösen ist, soll in diesem Entwurf auf möglichst vielfältige Weise beantwortet werden.
Der Entwurf verbindet sich mit eine Exkursion nach Mailand, einem Seminar über Bauten der neuen Mobilität und mit der interdisziplinären Vorlesung „Stadt und Verkehr“. Lokale Partner sind die Fakultät Architektur des Politecnico di Milano und das Architekturbüro Park Associati, das an der Entwicklung des Gebietes beteiligt ist.
Station Bovisa: Urban redevelopment alla Milanese
In the dense and city of Milan, there is a seven-hectare open space just ten minutes by train from the city centre. Located directly at the Bovisa railway station the area is ideally suited for an urban development of sustainable mobility. A densely populated neighbourhood for living and working is to be built here, designed to make car driving superfluous thanks to convenient rail and bicycle connections. The neighbourhood is extremely diverse: in addition to one- and ten-storey apartment buildings, old sheds and new office buildings, the new campus of the Politecnico, Milan's major university, is located here.
It is obvious that Milan needs affordable housing and improved mobility. At the same time, as everywhere, there is a lack of unsealed open spaces, green and infiltration areas, cold air corridors and places of biodiversity. The big question of how to solve the contradiction between housing construction and climate protection is to be answered in as many ways as possible.
The project is combined with an excursion to Milan, a seminar on “Constructions of new Mobility” and with the interdisciplinary lecture "City and Transport". Local partners are the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano and the architectural firm Park Associati, which is involved in the development of the area.
