Since the end of the first decade of the 20^th century, the Kibbutz have evolved as a settlement pattern in which the physical planning functionally reflects ideologies and life-practices of collectivity and equality.

In the last three decades, the Kibbutzim have been stripped from their constitutive ideology and most of them have turned into privatized sub-urban settlements.

What is the place of the communal social space in the Kibbutzim undergoing privatization processes of the collective territory? What is the possible need, quality and character of these communal spaces within the contemporary concrete social reality?

In our lecture we shell discuss those questions through our work in the Kibbutzim and our attempts to reload the existing dysfunctional spaces with new potentials.

As architects and designers, we see ourselves not as mere form-givers or professional solution-providers, but as practitioners of speculative thinking. We believe in the persuasive power of compelling narratives about the future and the advantage of our visual disciplines to make the case for it using our tools of Art, Design and Architecture.

Considering our pre-occupation with the commons, generally defined as Everything that belong equally to the entire human race, society, community or any defined group of people, we ask the workshop participants to come up with speculations, both textual and graphic, for possible utopian (or dystopian) futures for our society.

In the course of one day the participants will take the time and come up with scenarios for the future, "What If….?" In which the question reflects their own pre-occupations, considering Technological, Political, Social, and Environmental aspects, as their driving forces.
