25th Meeting of European Working Group on Internal Erosion
Research group participated in the 25th Meeting of European Working Group on Internal Erosion
The research group on Internal Erosion of the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering (H. Jentsch, P. Winkler, C. Rodríguez) and our guest scientist T. Bittner (University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia) participated in the 25th meeting of the European Working Group on Internal Erosion in Embankment Dams & their Foundations, held on 4- 7 September 2017 at Deltares in Delft (The Netherlands). The European working group meeting is oriented towards sharing knowledge on internal erosion in dams and levees. The organizing committee welcomed national and international speakers and participants from governments, industry, universities and research institutes. At the last day of the conference a visit to the Deltares facilities and several projects along the Dutch levees was facilitated. The main discussion topics were:
- Field cases and observations
- Internal erosion mechanisms
- Internal erosion modelling
- Risk assessment of internal erosion
- Monitoring of internal erosion
- Remediation of dikes and dams for internal erosion
We want to acknowledge the German Research Foundation (DFG) for funding the research group at the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering. Two of the Researchers from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presented their work:
