Research Line 3
Evaluation Stage 2011 Coordination: Università degli studi di Milano |
Research Line 3 of the proposed Research plan is titled Identify and develop case studies and Evaluate outcomes of case studies. This seeks to answer the central research question:
Do schematics exist across industries and countries in infrastructure financing?
Compiling a set of case studies that appear of major interest in light either of their transnational content (i.e. Gottardo tunnel), or of the technological innovation (i.e. Eurotunnel or a comparison of the German and the Italian highway system in the 1920s and in the second half of the century) and of their institutional novelty (i.e. European Investment Bank). Several cases within the same sector are required over time, in order to draw conclusions.
For each infrastructure project, a multi-level approach aims at highlighting the following key points:
the historical and country framework, embracing economic, political, social and cultural factors;
the national and international financial system;
the state of technology;
the goals that are pursued by the infrastructure provision;
any change of financing mechanism over time.
