The Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Art, National Kaohsiung Normal University, has invited 11 artists and 9 pieces from the Media Art and Design degree course at the Faculty of Art and Design of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to feature an exhibition and interactive workshops in the Jhongdou Wetlands Park and 116 Art Center, NKNU, carrying out interdisciplinary collaboration under the theme of »Art, Technology and Ecology«. The exhibition will run from 20 to 30 November 2017.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary, was founded in 1919; the faculty of Media was established in 1996. Prof. Ursula Damm describes the philosophy of the degree programme Media Art and Design as follows: »Bauhaus takes on the challenge of developing new technologies into new forms of art. A type of aesthetics of communication is thus developed through the use of technology.« This year also marks the 50th anniversary of National Kaohsiung Normal University, providing the perfect timing for the two universities to interact and communicate in depth through the exhibition.
With regards to the title, »Shared Habitats«, the curator Prof. Ursula Damm explains it as follows: »It is the encounter and understanding between humans and the natural environment, humans and other species, and humans and the environment formed by their creations. It is also seen as a mechanism of continuity and feedback. We are looking for possibilities to expand viewing, thinking and taking actions.« In the exhibition, the artists employ technological objects, experiments as well as other materials and forms of performance to rethink the new relationships, phenomena and issues between humans and ecology. The exhibition caters to the reading habit of a modern audience who can in turn re-experience nature.
The opening gala will take place on the 20th of November from 15 to 17.25 in 116 Art Center NKNU and Jhongdou Wetlands Park, where the artist Gideon Rama Bielewski will give his live performance »All the Resonating Objects«. On the 21st of November from 13.30 to 17.30 there will be two keynote forums respectively on »The Current Development of Technology Arts in Colleges in Germany and Taiwan« and on »Posthuman Aesthetics«. During the exhibition, there will also be a range of interactive workshops.
