Olaf Pfeifer & Philippe Schmidt, Weimar
As a result of the progressive “auto-mobilization” and the emigration of the economy into industrial regions on the periphery, the market square of the small town Biedenkopf has lost its function. Cultural usages have difficulty establishing here in the age of home entertainment. The city is imploding. Art and urbanism projects for the revitalization of an inner city core that had become obsolete were developed and implemented with students from the courses of study Public Art and New artistic strategies, Architecture and European Urbanism of the Bauhaus-University Weimar together with numerous activists on location. The goal was to present possible scenarios, fields of action and alternatives for individual and urban action. A number of innovative ideas for the development of the city were produced.
