Claus Bach, Weimar
In the Eighties Claus Bach was one of many active in the subcultural context of the former GDR. It was characterized by the workings of many artists who were active outside the officially decreed national cultural system: in form of exhibitions, concerts, readings and performances they worked together. Everything took place in private homes, churches and studios. The centers of these activities were, among others, evenin Weimar. Witness of these activities is provided via publication of artists magazines produced and distributed by themselves. This had an effect in 1989 as a catalyst of the Wende and it found its high point in many demonstrations throughout the country. For over ten years, Bach took photographs of this scene. The presentation will attempt to convey an atmospheric image of this period.
