Abstract
I will give an overview of our research into improving interaction with powerwall ("gigapixel") displays, which ranges from speeding up the basics of multi-window applications to the application of powerwalls for cancer diagnosis. Then I will describe the experimental work I am currently conducting at the Max Planck Institute (Tuebingen) into the benefits that physically walking has on people's ability to navigate large-scale virtual reality worlds. These studies indicate that walking produces a 30-40% improvement in the rate at which both route and survey knowledge are acquired.
