Prof. Chris Salter, Concordia University in Montreal:
»Temporal Affects: Performance, Agency and the Aesthetics of Real Time«
Die Einladung erfolgt im Rahmen einer Kooperation des IKKM und des Masterstudienganges MediaArchitecture.
Discussions around what sociologist of science Andrew Pickering called »material agency« – how matter does things and how such actions »temporally emerge« – are increasingly gaining credence as artists and theorists begin to turn the acts of performance away from strictly human subjects and onto technical objects, systems and processes. Unlike earlier cinematic and televisual technologies, however, contemporary techniques like sensor networks and real time computational processes force us to grapple with many overlapping emerging and dissolving temporal scales simultaneously and synchronously/asynchronously: the few seconds that it takes the human body or instrument to make a gesture, the millisecond time of a sensor to register action, the shifting time windows for processing, filtering or extracting such actions, the movement of matter like sound or light through space and the felt experience of the body in response.
