Camilla Caglioti

Camilla Caglioti is a PhD researcher interested in the movements offering alternatives to classical psychiatry that emerged in the second half of the 20th century, specifically the French psychothérapie institutionnelle and the Italian psichiatria democratica. She is dedicated to exploring the phenomenological source of these movements and their political critiques, focusing on the work of Frantz Fanon. Joining the project »Madness, Media, Milieus. Reconfiguring the Humanities in Postwar Europe« at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in June 2024, she is developing a research project on Frantz Fanon’s work and its connections to French psychothérapie institutionnelle and Italian psichiatria democratica.

Caglioti studied philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome (B.A.) and at University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (M.A.). Her research focused on the reception of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology in the work of Frantz Fanon as well as the French reception of Edmund Husserl’s late work. Motivated to explore the connection between (critical) phenomenology and psychology, she pursued a bachelor’s degree and a master’s 1 degree in clinical psychology at Paris Cité University. She has completed clinical internships both in a Club thérapeutique, based on institutional psychotherapy, and in the clinic of exile. Her master 1 thesis explores the community as a vector of care in the clinic of vulnerability and precarity.
