This preliminary workshop was organized by Orit Halpern (Concordia University), Christopher Salter (Concordia University), Henning Schmidgen (Bauhaus University Weimar), and Sigrid Leyssen (Bauhaus University Weimar).

Science and media are coming together in new ways, in the daily practices of science, and in our minds and bodies and environments. This confronts us with urgent political and social questions. The aim of the Science Media Network is to study collaboratively how media and science have been related in the past, and how they are coming together in new ways today.

The Science Media Network is meant to create a situated platform where thus far mostly individual efforts of studying media and science intersections can come together, be reflected, enhanced and reinforced. By deepening the collaboration between Media Studies, History of Science and History of Technology, we hope to develop them into stronger instruments to understand the role of media and science in society.
