Ich vertrete im Wintersemester 2020/21 und Sommersemester 2021 die Professur von Prof. Dr. Christiane Voss.

Die Schwerpunkte meiner Arbeit liegen auf den Konstellationen, die sich zwischen Philosophie und Kunst, Philosophie und Politik, Philosophie und Psychoanalyse sowie Philosophie und Wissenschaft bilden. Im Vordergrund steht die Frage, wie sich das Denken und die Gegenwart schneiden, wie das Denken in der Gegenwart erscheint – vorausgesetzt, dass das Denken nicht nur ein Nachdenken über etwas ist, sondern eine Gestaltung von Gegenwart und ein Widerspruch in ihr. Die kontinentale Philosophie, Marxismus und Postmarxismus, die Ästhetik als ästhetisches und epistemologisches Paradigma, die Wirklichkeit des Unbewussten sind Themen, die ich mit den klassischen Positionen der Ontologie verbinde, um an den Berührungspunkt von Zeitgebundenheit und Zeitlosigkeit des Denkens zu gelangen. 

Meine – in Arbeit befindliche – Habilitation nimmt diesen Zusammenhang als Frage der Moderne auf, deren Untergrund in der Überschneidung des klassischen deutschen Idealismus mit den Diskursen bei Freud und Marx erscheint. Ich untersuche den Zusammenhang von Marx, Freud, Kant und Hegel unter dem Stichwort des ‚geteilten Denkens‘: Es geht darum, Denken als einen geteilten Prozess zu verstehen, der sich erst aus der Konstellation dieser vier Positionen ergibt. Das Denken teilt und verwirklicht sich als Teilung, aber es verbindet sich auch durch die Teilungen. Es erweist sich als Medium, das durch die Teilungen hinweg verwirklicht.

Bis zum Sommersemester 2020 habe ich an der Universität der Bildenden Künste in Berlin als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter Philosophie unterrichtet, daneben auch am Bard College Berlin. Ich bin Associate Professor for Philosophy an der Postgraduiertenschule ZRC SAZU der slowenischen Akademie der Künste und Wissenschaften in Ljubljana. Ich habe unter anderem Bücher von Alain Badiou, Jacques Rancière und Alenka Zupančič mit übersetzt und mit herausgegeben, 2011 erschien eine Junius-Einführung zu Neuen politischen Philosophie, zu der ich die Teile zu Badiou, Rancière und Nancy beigesteuert habe.

Meine Promotion von 2009 trägt den Titel „Ästhetik der Lebendigkeit“. Sie beschäftigt sich mit den beiden Teilen von Kants Kritik der Urteilskraft, in denen Kant einerseits danach fragt, was das Schöne ausmacht und andererseits danach, wie das Leben zu verstehen ist. Ich untersuche den Zusammenhang beider Fragen als Phänomen der Lebendigkeit des Menschen, der sich über das Schöne als Ausnahme in der Natur darstellt. Die Promotion wurde im Rahmen des Graduiertenkollegs Lebensformen und Lebenswissen der Universitäten Potsdam und Frankfurt/Oder und im Rahmen des SFB Ästhetische Erfahrung im Zeichen der Entgrenzung der Künste an der FU Berlin erarbeitet, Erstgutachter war Prof. Dr. Christoph Menke, Zweitgutachter Prof. Dr. Winfried Menninghaus.

My work focuses on the constellations that form between philosophy and art, philosophy and politics, philosophy and psychoanalysis, and philosophy and science. In the foreground is the question of how thought and the present intersect, how thought appears in the present - provided that thinking is not just a reflection on something, but a shaping of the present and a contradiction in it. Continental philosophy, Marxism and post-Marxism, aesthetics as an aesthetic and epistemological paradigm, the actuality of the unconscious are topics that I connect with the classical positions of ontology in order to reach the point of contact between time-bound and timeless thought. 

My habilitation - which is currently in progress - takes up this connection as a question of modernity, the flipside of which appears in the overlapping of classical German idealism with the discourses of Freud and Marx. I am investigating the connection between Marx, Freud, Kant and Hegel under the heading of a 'divided thinking': it is a matter of understanding thinking as a divided process that only arises from the constellation of these four positions. Thinking divides and realizes itself as division, but it also connects itself through the divisions. It proves to be a medium that actualizes itself through divisions.

Until the summer semester of 2020, I taught philosophy as a research assistant at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin and also at Bard College Berlin. I am Associate Professor for Philosophy at the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Ljubljana. I have co-translated and co-edited, among others, books by Alain Badiou, Jacques Rancière and Alenka Zupančič. In 2011 an Introduction to New Political Philosophy was published with Junius, to which I contributed the parts on Badiou, Rancière and Nancy.

My dissertation from 2009 is entitled "Aesthetics of Vitality". It deals with the two parts of Kant's Critique of Judgement-Power, in which Kant asks, on the one hand, what constitutes beauty and, on the other hand, how life is to be understood. I examine the connection between the two questions as a phenomenon of the liveliness of the human being who, through the beautiful, presents himself as an exception in nature. The doctoral thesis was developed within the framework of the Research Training Group "Forms of Life and Life Knowledge" at the Universities of Potsdam and Frankfurt/Oder and within the framework of the SFB "Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits" at the FU Berlin.
