Projektbeschreibung

For my Master's thesis in architecture, I intensively observed an urban space previously unknown to me. Observation, a critical skill I developed during my studies, helped me explore how digital services rapidly transform urban environments and their impact on urban, social, and digital spaces. I was also curious about how work optimization affects people in app-based services, so I worked as a "Wolt Partner" in Cologne last fall.

The thesis encompasses three multidisciplinary perspectives. First, I documented my observations in a book with daily impressions of work, people, and spaces, including previously inaccessible areas like ghost kitchens and ghost supermarkets. These observations are placed in a social context, addressing changing eating habits during the pandemic and the needs of a city with many single-person households.

Second, I used a GoPro to record film data during my deliveries, creating a short film that shows the speed and stress workers face in an over-optimized urban space, navigating from restaurants to customers without leaving the platform's digital realm.

Third, I depicted the new platform spaces through oil paintings and iPhone art, highlighting the often invisible workers and giving a face to the pervasive digital city logistics.

The work doesn't provide a conclusive answer on reclaiming lost urban space but encourages a deeper understanding of how private companies exploit urban data without offering adequate value beyond consumption.
