Newsletter 08.2020
1. The Library in times of corona - acquisitions
Since April 21st 2020 books and DVDs can once again be checked out from and returned to the University Library’s physical collection. This service is being used intensely. On May 11th 2020 we have therefore also started to focus on acquiring and processing physical media again, especially items urgently required for teaching. We also give priority to orders stemming from your suggestions.
In the past seven weeks, due to the unique situation, we have focused mainly on licensing electronic items. A list of e-books we have licensed and made available across campus during that period can be viewed here.
Of course, we will continue our efforts to license electronic information resources, partially as test access periods. This newsletter lists a few examples.
2. Test access to »Business Expert Press« and »Packt Publishing«
From now until July 15th 2020, the University Library offers campus wide test access to IG Publishing‘s e-book collections »Business Expert Press« and »Packt Publishing«.
Packt Publishing« provides access to a large number of English language textbooks on information technology subjects such as programming and web development. Please find more information on the collection here.
»Business Expert Press« (BEP) contains e-books on economical subjects, e.g. Human Resources, Communications, International Management, Accounting, Marketing, Project Management, Public Relations, Corporate Governance and Corporate Ethics. Please find more information on this service here.
Members of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar may access the collections from within the university network. For remote access from outside the network you will need a VPN connection.
3. Test access to several Elsevier collections
During a test period from now until August 12th 2020, university members may access all e-books from the Elsevier collections Engineering, Materials Science and Mathematics. The collections can be accessed on provider Sciencedirect’s platform from within the university network. From outside the network access is provided via Shibboleth or by VPN connection.
4. Manchester University Press – time limited access to e-books
Until June 30th 2020, university members may access all e-books from various collections by »Manchester University Press«. A VPN connection to the university network must be established.
5. Now available: whole semester checkouts for instructors
As teaching during summer semester 2020 will largely be carried out electronically and the library is still not accessible to the public, no physical term collections will be set up for the time being. Aside from setting up electronic term collections on the learning platform Moodle, instructors may now also borrow items from the library collection that are urgently required for teaching and research for the duration of the whole semester. Please contact the relevant subject librarian.
