1. Construction work in library reception area delayed under pandemic conditions
Deviating from the original plans, construction work in the library’s reception and service area will not be finished before Easter weekend. After consulting with our contractors, there will be a three week delay.
Unfortunately this delay, along with developments in the pandemic, forces us to also postpone the reopening of the library and study spaces, which was originally scheduled for the start of the summer semester. For the time being we will continue to hand out and receive items at the temporary circulation desk in the Limona building, which can be reached from the Schützengasse entrance, from Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 3pm.
On April 26th 2021 the library will – coronavirus pandemic conditions permitting – open its redesigned entrance area in the main building. Next to introducing our comfortable self-checkout machines, we also hope to be able to reopen the library premises to the public and to offer a limited number of study spaces. As well as that, we plan to make a first step towards extending our opening hours by opening Monday to Friday 9am until 6pm.
2. Current information on Open Access
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is able to fund open access articles and monographs by its researchers from its Open Access Publication Fund. You can find all information about the Publication Fund, the funding criteria and the application form at this link. Please feel free to apply at any time.
The open.access-network project offers a series of Open Access Talk online events all around various Open Access topics. Materials and recordings of the talks are available to download for free on Zenodo and other places.
The new version of the Creative Commons Corporation‘s CC Search engine allows you to easily find and use CC-licensed photographs and pictures as well as audio and video content. Next to filtering options it also provides helpful functions such as the automatic import of licensing disclaimers. A step-by-step research guide is available on irights.info.
3. News on DEAL
DEAL Operations is now online. The website, provided by MPDL Services GmbH, offers practical support to researchers and information managers to successfully implement and optimally use the transformative agreements negotiated in Project DEAL.
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entered into the DEAL contract with Wiley in 2019 and into the DEAL contract with Springer Nature in 2020. Project DEAL aims to create licensing deals on a federal level over the entire electronic journal portfolio of large scientific publishers. The subscription based licensing model is supposed to be replaced by a Publish & Read-model, calculating the cost of a deal from a publication based settlement. The university library is responsible for the organization and the yearly financing of DEAL contracts at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. You can find more information on our website.
