1. Extended opening times starting on May 25th

Since April 26th you can enter the library by our newly designed service area, and we have been able to modernize and improve our service thanks to new RFID technology. We’re glad to see that the transition has gone smoothly and that our new self-service terminals have been well received. Reopening the library for use in accordance with our infection prevention plan (Infektionsschutzkonzept) has equally stood the test, which is why we’re able to take a further step towards a full reopening: starting on May 25th 2021, the library will be open from 9am to 6pm on Monday to Friday.

2. »Vorworte«: Ricarda Löser’s art project in the new service area

When you enter the library’s new service area, you will not only be met with modern service, but also with a multitude of forewords. Ricarda Löser, PhD, is a member of the artistic staff at the university’s art and design faculty (visual communication), and has developed the project »Vorworte« (engl. »forewords«) specifically for the glass doors in the university library’s new display shelves in the entrance area. Printed in white onto the glass in different type faces, the texts are comprised of the first sentences from the forewords of 365 randomly selected books from the library’s collection. These short excerpts reflect the variety of subjects to be found in the library. »Forewords« can be understood quite literally, as they are physically placed be»fore« the books on the shelves.

3. AVA – now available via Shibboleth

For about one year we’ve made the German streaming service AVA available from within the university network, offering a unique selection of European and international arthouse films from all genres. Accessing this service has recently become even less complicated, as you can now log in from outside the university network using Shibboleth.

4. Long Night of Academic Writing on June 10th

In 2021 the 7th Long Night of Academic Writing at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will take place. Under the tagline »All Together Now«, this year’s Long Night is dedicated to collaborative writing and, like last year, will be held as an online event. How do we write and publish together? What digital tools help in the process? How can we support each other in the writing process and how do others actually write? Students, doctoral candidates, university staff, and all those interested in writing are cordially invited to discuss these and many other questions about academic writing together online. You will find more information – and in the near future also the schedule - on the Long Night website.

5. »Wolfgang Borchert: Leben - Werk – Wirkung« - Exhibition postponed to autumn

May 20th 2021 would have been the 100th birthday of writer and poet Wolfgang Borchert. To commemorate the occasion, an exhibition about the writer’s life, work and impact was planned in the university library’s entrance area, in cooperation with the reading festival »Weimarer Lesarten« as well as the Thüringer Literaturrat. Owing to the current situation, the exhibition was postponed to autumn and will be held from October 21st to November 30th 2021. The exhibition will be opened on October 21st at 5 pm.
