1. Campus delivery service for university members – now set up for direct requests in BibSearch

Introducing the campus delivery service for university members in Summer 2020 was an important step towards making the library’s collection, especially printed journals, available under pandemic conditions. The service, which allows for requesting article copies from bound journals as scanned pdf files, has seen steady use since then. However, we were never satisfied with users having to fill in a separate request form. To make things more convenient, we developed a way to incorporate a direct request function into our discovery service BibSearch in cooperation with the Head Office of the GBV Common Library Network and the company ImageWare Components, which previously developed the campus delivery service software. The evident advantage is that journal articles are listed individually in BibSearch and may be requested directly.
Any limitations resulting from the Urheberrechts-Wissensgesellschaftsgesetz (UrhWissG), the relevant German copyright law, remain in place: up to 10% of any single work as well as individual contributions from scientific journals may be provided this way.
The campus delivery service request form will remain available for use.

2. Current Open Access News

This year‘s Open Access Days will be held in virtual space from September 27th-29th 2021 under the tagline »Participation«. Attending the conference is free of charge with no requirement to register. The schedule is already available online.
The scholar-led.network, which campaigns collaboratively for a non-profit oriented open access publishing culture independent of large publishing houses, has issued a manifesto in favour of fair, planned and diverse publishing in July 2021. The manifesto is available online. This release originated from the focus group scholar-led.network in the project open-access.network.

3. »Marx and Marxism« - free access to e-book collection by De Gruyter

Until September 30th 2021 the e-book collection »Marx und Marxismus: Ideen, Erbe und Einfluss« (Marx and Marxism: Ideas, heritage and influence) by De Gruyter can be accessed from within the university network. The varied collection of 370 e-books contains numerous inspirations and influences centered around Marx‘ body of work.

4. »Vorworte« in the Online Film Gallery

The »Long Night of Academic Writing« opened its curtain of virtual readings in a livestream in June 2021. Employees, scientists, lecturers, professors, alumni, as well as friends of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar read aloud their prefaces or epilogues and thus provide a glimpse behind the scenes of collaborative writing. All contributions can be reexperienced in the Online Film Gallery. Thank you to all participants!

5. University library closed on August 26th

Due to an annual safety systems check, the university library will be closed all day on August 26th 2021.

6. III. Weimar silent movie retrospective starting this weekend

As announced in the last newsletter, this year’s silent movie retrospective from August 28th until September 8th 2021 is dedicated to the »circle of immortals« and will show rare films that were particularly successful in Weimar theaters 100 years ago. We would like to remind you of this event once again and direct your attention to the varied schedule. You are cordially invited!
