1. Recycled paper at library printers
In agreement with our service partner Triumph-Adler we now offer recycled paper at the university library’s public copy machines, initially as a trial. With the exception of the coin-operated machine on the lower floor, all machines contain DIN A4 recycled paper in paper tray 3. You may select this tray directly at the machine when printing from a USB drive or making copies, or in the menu when printing from PC, before you send the print job.
The paper used is 100% recycled and certified with the Blue Angel and EU Ecolabel, and will also be used in background processes in the library from now on.
In July, we will evaluate observations from the trial period together with our service partner.
The idea to use recycled paper originated in the library’s sustainability team, which commenced work in fall 2022.
2. Coffee Lectures on software tools in research data management
The Thuringian Competence Network Research Data Management continues its Online Coffee Lecture series in April 2023, highlighting different software (tools) for research data management. Every month one event will be held online via Zoom. There is no charge to attend. Events will be recorded and available to review at your leisure. Please consult the Competence Network's website for more information.
3. Poetry in the glass pavilion
As part of the »LESARTEN23« festival, a poetry evening in the glass pavilion on top of the Limona building (Steubenstrasse 8) will be held on May 5th at 7pm. Guests will be poets Angela Krauß and Christine Hansmann, whose reading will be accompanied by Oliver Räumelt on the accordion. The university library’s director, Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, will be your host for the evening.
Please find more information as well as the link to purchase tickets in the LESARTEN online schedule.
4. Until May 25th: »Graphische Arbeiten« by Peter Heckwolf
Taking his leave from teaching, Peter Heckwolf, the long-time artistic director of the printing workshops at the Art and Design faculty, presents his own artistic works on all three floors of the library main building. Visible from the street, visitors will be surprised by dancing pigs, a 3 meter long Thuringian bratwurst and a gigantic juicy pork chop, all stamped using an actual pig’s snout. The artist is less concerned with the pictured object than with the method of depiction and, for example, prints carpet beaters using actual pigment dust.
During the library’s opening hours, the exhibition can be seen free of charge until May 25th 2023.
5. University library closed days in May
The university library will be closed on the public holidays of May 18th (Ascension Day) and May 29th (Whit Monday) 2023.
6. Don’t miss the university library’s book sale!
On June 7th and 8th from 10am to 3pm, withdrawn books from all subject areas will be on offer for low prices in the upper entrance area of the library building.
