1. Historic and special collections – available in Limona building from January
We would like to thank you for the feedback on our conditions on working with special collection items, and we’re happy to see our method of using them with no need for an appointment meeting with wide acceptance!
We have now evaluated the two test periods in the Limona and the main building and decided on the Limona building as the location for special collection items. From January 2024 you’ll be able to pick up your requested items at the Limona service desk and work with them at designated tables. As before you’ll be able to use your requested items during the full service hours on Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 6pm without appointment. As well, the campus delivery service will remain available for these items in the future, enabling university members to receive excerpts and single chapters digitally and free of charge.
2. Artist’s book »Pas de Deux« acquired

»Pas de Deux« is dedicated to a little known activity of writer Vladimir Nabokov: scientific research on the history of migration and reproduction of butterflies. Over several years, artist Tatjana Bergelt has travelled the USA and Russia to do research in archives and collections and compiled traces of Nabokov’s trailblazing research. The result is a finely detailed work that tells of the lepidopteroligist’s passion in impressive images, photos, drawings, texts and statistics.
The artist’s book was produced in a small numbered edition in 2023, which is available in few other university libraries, for example at Harvard and Yale. Bauhaus-Universität was able to acquire a copy using special funding.
3. Süddeutsche Zeitung – now online
Because the printed edition of Süddeutsche Zeitung can no longer be delivered daily, we have cancelled our subscription. However, as of now we have licensed the online version as a replacement! From within the university network, you will be able to search for and read current and past articles from the main edition and some supplements. University members are even able to access the service from off campus using VPN. Take a look for yourself and start your search in our database info system DBIS.
4. New acquisition: Online resource »Companions to the History of Architecture«
With over 500 images, photos and architecture drawings in several volumes the reference work »Companions to the History of Architecture« constitutes a valuable resource on architectural thinking and practice from the 15th century to the present. Extensive search options and comfortable full text access as well as the option to download individual articles as PDF enable you to work comfortably. From within the university network you’ll have access via Wiley online library, university members may also use Shibboleth or VPN for off campus access.
5. Publication server: Change from OPUS Weimar to the Digital Library of Thuringia (DBT)
OPUS Weimar has been available as publication server of electronic documents at the Bauhaus University since February 2004. Till today, almost 3.000 documents have been uploaded. Due to problems with necessary updates, we have now looked for an alternative.
For many years, the Digital Library of Thuringia (DBT) has offered a common platform for Thuringian universities for electronic publishing and long-term archiving of multimedia documents from research and teaching. In future, Bauhaus University’s DBT homepage will provide access to the documents of the Bauhaus University and can also be used to search the holdings of the universities in Jena, Erfurt and Ilmenau as well as all participating institutions.
Publishing is only possible with a valid university account. Every author must register via Shibboleth in order to publish.
The switch from OPUS Weimar to DBT is planned in two steps at the turn of the year 2023/24. From 15.01.2024, all documents will be published in the Digital Library of Thuringia. It will still be possible and useful to search the entire collection in OPUS Weimar. In the course of the 1st quarter of 2024, the document collection will also move to the DBT and OPUS Weimar will be switched off.

6. Exhibition »Gefesselte Blicke« - now in virtual space
The successful film poster exhibition »Gefesselte Blicke«, which you may remember seeing in the library until this summer and which is still available in the Erfurt university library until Dec 4th 2024, is now also available digitally. If you’d like to review the exhibits once more or if you’ve never had the time or opportunity to visit the exhibition in person, you can now view it online. Navitage the exhibits and discover additional infos in the accompanying texts!
The virtual exhibition is an excerpt from the exhibition catalogue (designed by Ricarda Löser). It is provided by Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB) and is free to use.
7. University library advent calendar

We bid farewell to 2023 during December with our popular advent calendar. Every day little discoveries will provide insight into the newest acquisitions, recommendations and unusual items in the Bauhaus university library. During the next three weeks, the info screen right at the entrance will put you into that end-of-year mood. All doors can be found on the university library website.
8. Closing days over Christmas and the new year
As in every year, the library will take a Christmas break towards the end of the year: Friday, December 22nd, will be our last opening day in 2023, and the library will close early at 6pm that day. We will remain closed until Monday, January 1st 2024.
From Tuesday, January 2nd 2024, we’ll resume service during the usual hours (Mon-Fri 9am-11pm, Sat 10am-6pm).
