As part of my thesis work I would like to present two proposals regarding experience learning. The first proposal refers to an application which aims to improve the learning experience in museums and historical sites. The second suggests the creation of workshops which would allow people to experiment with artifacts. Both ideas are integrally connected.

People visit museums and historical sites to learn. However, in the museum, they don't want to approach learning like in school. They want to learn through direct experience which they could see and interact. Experience through interaction with an element gives the feeling that it has become my own experience. Many museums have employed digital media to give audience direct experience. However, in Bauhaus in Weimar, there is a lack of such applications. This thesis is proposing an interactive tour with a tablet application. In the application, Augmented reality and simulations are used for providing active tour experience.

The second proposal refers to a different way of seeing Bauhaus objects. We have been educated that individuality, originality and authorship are very important elements. Thus, when we are observing an object in a museum, we focus on this information as our focal point. However, Bauhaus varies in this way. The Bauhaus artifacts originate from workshops. During these workshops, many different experiments and cooperation work occurred between masters and students. Therefore, the objects which we can see now are the result of these workshops. Hence, I suggest perceiving Bauhaus objects through workshops. In the application, simulations are created and connected with workshops. Each simulation is considered as a workshop simulation. When the user looks at a Bauhaus object, the application offers them the chance to create their own object. My suggestion to the users is to stop admiring and start making your own art.

The principle of the Bauhaus, which are “learning by doing”, “playing with the theme” and the special way of dealing with the workshop artifacts, give great chance to develop a visitor orientated application for the Bauhaus buildings.

The completed application will provide information, a map for orientation, the possibility to interact with Bauhaus objects to give the visitor opportunity to both learn, play and have fun with Bauhaus theme.
