About
Thuringia recently experiences the influx of a comparatively high amount of refugees. Therefore and on an unprecedented level, many cities face the challenge to deal with a “new” cultural diversity. Not only do the reception and accommodation of asylum-seeking people challenge the local municipalities and their residents, but also do they affect the logistical, planning and spatial aspects of the cities, all of which depend on the respective city’s social and mental development of a so-called welcome culture.
Starting with the assumption that the Thuringian cities and counties need to adapt themselves to a long-term comprehensive demographic change this process opens many new and pressing questions and problems about how the different groups will live together. The project works together with a broad variety of local actors, aiming to offer the respective municipalities new opportunities for urban development.
