Before you apply for the Masters programme, please check whether you fulfill the formal requirements for admission. You are eligible to apply for the Masters programme if you
- have obtained a university degree (or similar) from a German or a foreign University with at least 180 CP and a minimum final grade of “good“ (German equivalent) in the disciplines of architecture, design, digital technologies, informatics as well as related disciplines with academical and/ or artistic-design background (Bachelors, Masters or Diploma). In case of doubt, the examination board decides on the eligibility according to the specific qualification
- can refer to a certain level of professional experience and competencies to fulfil the requirements for further qualification in a master degree. For that purpose your personal design skills, preferably related to the context of architecture – design – digital technologies are assessed through own adequate works samples in a portfolio with design, visual and text-based work, as well as through samples from your previous studies. These specific requirements should show your capacity to interdisciplinary work in those fields, theoretical reflexion and/or practical design applications and an affinity to digital applications and methods.
- can prove an advanced level of English language skills complying B2 (minimum requirement) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages. The study programme is taught in English.

In order to apply for admission to the programme, you need to submit the following documents and material through Uni-Assist which you will first need to register for as it is explained in the paragraph "Application Procedure" which you find further down on this page. In order to apply for admission to the programme, you need to submit the following documents and material online (no hardcopies to be submitted for the application process):
1. Completed online-application form (access the GoMoveIn online-portal here, the portal usually is opening for applications in the second week of April).
2. Your letter of motivation in English language | 1 page | signed
3. Your CV (tabular)
4. As part of your application you are requested to include a portfolio as one PDF document with a minimum of three samples from your previous study or own professional work (portfolio) ideally related to the study contents and proving your personal qualification in design skills in the fields of architecture - design - digital technologies. The file may consist of samples including, but not limited to:
- own works from your previous or current studies (e.g. architectural designs, installations, interventions, interface design, projections, visuals , summarized Masters or Bachelors thesis or seminar work etc., designs, writings)
- works from internships
- works from previous career

- publications
- voluntary work
We appreciate a short and precise description of each project in the portfolio.
Please include a statement of authorship of the submitted works. If you include team work, indicate your role and your contribution within the team.
Submit all samples in one single PDF file labelled "Portfolio_last Name_first name". We appreciate portfolios that do not exceed 8 MB and have a max. of 25 MB!
5. Graduation certificate (with courses and grades) of pre-qualification for university admission: e.g., high school degree (allowing you to enter higher education at a university) which you also needed to study your preceding undergraduate or graduate degree | certified copy, documents not in German or English need to be submitted in a certified translated version, in German or English
6. University degree or similar qualification including all relevant study results (including courses and grades) if they are not listed in the degree documents | certified copy, documents not in German or English need to be submitted in a certified translated version, in German or English
7. Proof of English language proficiency according to B2 (minimum requirement) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages through certificates:
- TOEFL-test, minimum (PBT 550, CBT 213, IBT 80)
- IELTS, Band 6,0- or others according CEFR B
- Cambridge Certificate, (First Certificate FCE), Grade C
- comparable certificates which are recognised internationally
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of this language proficiency. Exceptions are possible if an English-language degree or a full degree from an English-speaking country can be proven.
8. You are free to add additional documents like recommendation letters, work references, etc. but all in one pdf file.
It is also recommended to add further language certificates, especially in German language. Although German is not required for the studies, this will allow you a better local integration but also to visit university courses offered in German language!
After submitting your application
If all formal requirements are fulfilled a commission will review the applications and evaluate those as aptitude check. Applicants may be invited for a short interview. Applicants will be informed about the results, both for acceptance and for refusal. Acceptances are valid for the current and next year of enrollment. Due to a high number of applicants we ask you to abstain from any questions regarding the results during and after the review process.

Once you have made sure that you fulfill the prerequisites and are eligible to apply to the Masters programme »Digital Technololgies in Architecture and Design DTAD (M.Sc.)«, you can apply through Uni-Assist which usually opens end of February for applications in our programme.
Registration
In order to start the application process register with Uni-Assist through the following link: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/how-to-apply/apply-online/
You will be asked to provide your personal information and to create an account for further use. Once you have entered all information you will be sent a link that will activate your account. As you activate your account, you'll be asked to enter further details. With that step taken, you will then be able to search for the Master's course programme »Digital Technololgies in Architecture and Design«
Study Offers
This search mask allows you to narrow down your search for the Masters programme you wish to apply for. Enter for example the name of the university and choose Master as the degree you wish to obtain.
Create Application
Once you have chosen the right programme, it is time to create your application. In order to do so, you will be asked further questions. After you have uploaded all necessary documents, you are then asked to print off your form and to submit it online.
Application Deadline: May 15
The application deadline in the programme »»Digital Technololgies in Architecture and Design DTAD (M.Sc.)«, starting each winter semester is 15th of May each year for Non-EU students. This means that all material has to be delivered to the application platform of Uni-Assist until that date at latest! It is recommended to apply earlier for a smooth process!

Assessment of application
Applicants will be informed on the results of your application between mid and end of July.
Due to the high number of applications, applicants are kindly asked to please abstain from contacting us regarding the results! You will be informed as soon as the examination board has finished the assessment of applications.
Denials
Denial will be sent to those applicants who did not successfully pass the assessment of general and special eligibility for the programme.
Acceptances + admission (immatriculation)
If your application was considered positively, soon after, you will receive the official admission letter from the university. This document enables you to conduct all the administrative affairs such as visa-issues etc. And it is the precondition in order to enroll to the University for your Master Programme. Only after having enrolled, you actually become a student of the programme. Further information is available here.
Start of studies
It is possible to start your studies only in winter semester (starting October 1).
Beforehand, you have to do the immatriculation to register/enrol in the study programme (until September 30).
Validity of accpetance
If you received an admission letter it is valid for 2 calendar years. Example: Successful applicants, who, in 2024 were accepted for their studies, starting October 1, 2024 can use that acceptance for starting studies in the following year, means starting their studies on October 1, 2025. If you intend to do so, please inform the programme coordinator soon after you received the admission.
Tuition fees
Study costs
Study costs
There are no tuition fees but a small semester contribution (Semester fee) which also covers the usage of local public transport in Germany (Deutschlandticket) and a subsidised meal plan at the Mensa.
As usual in any studies, additionally, some modules like the study project may require students to cover material expenses related to projects or costs for excursions or a study trip (travel and overnight stay) during the semester.
