Discovering Cities project aims to initiate The Syrian lab of virtual urban planning (SYLAVUP). It will facilitate the launch of the common research strategy that will be initiated in a conference with the established network of Syrian architects in Germany addressing different war-torn cities in Syria. To these conferences, a representative of the Jordan partner is invited as a guest critique, furthermore two experts from Germany and two from the MENA region.
While unbelievable atrocities are committed, it seems to be illusionary to already think about reconstructing the Syrian cities. Historical examples however illustrate that no war went on forever and that sophisticated plans are missing when the reconstruction has to start. Moreover, it is important that the rebuilding of destroyed cities enables processes of reconciliation. We call for all architects and urban planners from Syria, the Middle East and Germany to contribute with ideas, perspectives and proposals.
The call for participation is now CLOSED.
