Next to doctoral degrees, which are undertaken entirely by research, we offer the opportunity to pursue your research interests and academic qualification within the framework of internationally oriented and interdisciplinary doctorate programmes at the Institute for European Urban Studies.

In addition to the right to award doctorates, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is also entitled to award a post-doctoral degree called "Habilitation," a degree qualifying the holder to teach a particular subject at professorial level. The right refers to the (wider) subject area of the habilitation thesis. On the recommendation of the Faculty, the University confers the degree on highly qualified academics after the post-doctoral candidates have successfully completed the habilitation procedure. To be admitted to the procedure, applicants must meet the admission requirements, which are specified in the habilitation regulations.
