The Denkraum.Bauhaus congress will determine questions like what relevance the Bauhaus ideas have for a contemporary aesthetic education at universities, schools and extracurricular cultural educational institutions and what role the universities, art classes and extracurricular educational institutions play as meeting places for current questions and problems as well as their discursive negotiation in art, design and architecture. This requires a critical retrospect on the political, social and economic contexts as well as a questioning of the impact of the Bauhaus on our understanding of contemporary aesthetic education and a critical examination of the current reception of the Bauhaus at universities, schools and in extracurricular cultural educational contexts.
World political events provoke issues of contemporary aesthetic education.
Contemporary art, design and architecture are directly affected by these processes, as they not only affect the content, forms and media of artistic and creative work, but also help to open up new contexts and thus open up opportunities for the functional integration of visual art and design into socially relevant issues. At the same time, however, it is necessary to question the current problems and challenges to which we can and must provide answers in educational processes in general, in art teaching and in extracurricular contexts in particular. A discourse on the contribution of art academies, art education and extracurricular educational institutions to contemporary aesthetic education therefore also includes the question of educational responsibility towards future social designers. Negotiating these is the aim of the interdisciplinary discourse to be conducted within the framework of the Federal Congress of Art Education.
The content-related interlocking of the Denkraum.Bauhaus congress with the BuKo19 and the 6th International Symposium on the Education of Architecture, with reference to the history of the "Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar", offers the potential to repeatedly confront the relationship of art, design and architecture to one another and in their education and to renegotiate Walter Gropius' founding manifesto of the "Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar" from 1919 as a reflexive starting point:
"The Bauhaus strives for the integration of all artistic creations, the reunification of all artistic disciplines - sculpture, painting, arts and crafts - into a new architectural art as its inseparable components. The final goal of the Bauhaus is the unified work of art - the great building - in which there is no boundary between monumental and decorative art. The Bauhaus wants to educate architects, painters and sculptors of all degrees, according to their abilities, to become capable craftsmen or independent artists, and to form a working group of leading and emerging artists, which knows how to design buildings in their entirety - framing, expansion, decoration and furnishing - in a unified manner out of a common spirit." (Walter Gropius 1919)
The congress Denkraum.Bauhaus initiates a space that is carried by the discourse between the expertises, by the openness of the disciplines and by the questioning of a contemporary understanding of art, design and architecture as well as their education.
