Radio Art Residency: Third residency goes to artist duo from Buenos Aires

The Radio Art Residency Weimar is entering its second year. For the period from April to June 2022, the artist duo from Buenos Aires (Argentina), Florencia Curci and Agustin Genoud, will realise their project »Adapted to air: Collective vocallities for a future sonic forest« in Weimar.

The project explores political and corporal performativity in the construction of meaning through voice. The aim is to collaborate with the practice of collective voices capable of imagining and producing possible and livable futures.

The artist duo asks: Is it possible through exploring new vocal practices to generate instances of cognitive entanglement with other beings collaboratively? What stories can be told through these voices? What futures can they imagine and produce?

These questions guide a research that conceives humans as one of the millions of species adapted to air capable of producing sound. The research draws into other species’ strategies of voicing and communication to produce new vocalities. Radio, here, is an air-adapted species of the machine kind.

Florencia Curci works as a sound and radio artist, performer and curator. She completed her postgraduate studies in Expanded Music at the UNSAM University, and the Artists’ Program of the Torcuato di Tella University. Since 2017 she is Director of CASo (Sound Art Center), an institution dependent on the Ministry of Culture of Argentina promoting artistic research on sound, experimental music and social acoustics. In 2020 she founded Radio CASo as an online páramo in which to congregate during the pandemic. Her work was commissioned by KunstRadio, AMEE, CA2M (Madrid), Centro Cultural Kirchner (Arg) and her live performances were presented in Festival Aural (MX), MediaLab Prado (Madrid), Tsonami Sound Art Festival (Chile), among others.
