"Listening to the World - 100 years of radio art" - October Events at HKW and PAD-Festival

After three years of research, traveling, workshops and events “Listening to the World - 100 Years of Radio” is now coming to an end. But not without being celebrated! Following the successful event days at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in October 2023, which focused on the regions of South America and Southeast Asia, the upcoming program “Listening to the World – 100 years of radio art” - part 2 on October 19, 2024, will spotlight perspectives and practices from Southern Africa and other regions that are geographically, politically, and sonically connected.

If you are not in Berlin, turn your radio on: from 12pm-12am via Cashmere RadioBauhaus.FM (und UKW 106.6 MHz) und Radio Submarine.

In this context, we are also thrilled to announce the launch of the Transcultural Listening Map (TLM) website. This platform is designed to connect and showcase international sound artists and theoreticians, fostering collaboration and exchange. The project initially began with the content from our three Bauhaus.Listening.Workshops held in Uruguay, the Philippines, and South Africa. Going forward, the platform will be open to sound artists and theoreticians from around the world.

We warmly invite you to explore the Transcultural Listening Map online at listeningmap.de

The website will also be officially presented at PAD - Performing Arts and Digitality Festival from October 24th to 27th, accompanied by a performative Listening Walk “Eingang fuer Zuhoerer”, featuring many voices from the TLM.

The Transcultural Listening Map is a project of the professorship ‘Experimental Radio’, with the financial support by the Kreativfonds of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The material was gathered as part of the umbrella project “Listening to the World - 100 Years of Radio”, which Experimental Radio initiated together with the Goethe-Institute on occasion of 100 years of radio (art) and implemented with Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) between 2022 and 2024.
