Frauke Burgdorff, Bonn
The arts and artists can act as partners, critical friends or in opposition to the communal urban development strategy. They can be part of decorative, economic or social processes. Most of the time the relation between “The Arts” and “The Urban Design Process” is indifferent. This often leads to misunderstandings and disappointed expectations. The lecture will - from the point of view of an urban planner - give insight in some processes behind the development of “public art” projects and will show the opportunities and the limits Urban Designers see in the collaboration of Artists/Curators with Urban Planners. Since 2006 Frauke Burgdorff is chairman of "Montag Stiftung Urbane Räume gAG, Bonn", before she was e.g. head of StadtBauKultur NRW in Gelsenkirchen, collaborator in the office of futurology, Gelsenkirchen and in the studiegroep omgeving, Antwerpen. In these positions she was involved in the planning of diverse events and moderations and publications about topics such as urban development, urban quarter development, construction culture and pedagogic architecture.
