For the second year in a row, the outstanding achievements of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Faculty of Art and Design students have secured third place for the State of Thuringia in the »ADC Hochschul-Kreativindex«. Ranking in the index is based on awards received over the last three years.
Thanks to the ranking of the renowned Art Director’s Club, Thuringia placed once again in the top 3 in the national ranking. Four of the coveted »Nails« were awarded to students from the Faculty of Art and Design, fulfilling the requirements for an art university for Thuringia and in fact increased the state’s score from 9.3 to 10.5.
Bauhaus projects were awarded one gold, two silver and one bronze nail at the 2024 ADC Talent Awards. Students from the Freie Kunst degree programme were among the winners for the first time. These four awards, along with two from previous years, are incorporated into the »Kreativindex« calculation. The »Durchschnittswertes Kreativer Exzellenz« is based on points calculated in relation to the number of relevant universities in the respective federal state.
The Art Directors Club Deutschland describes this statistic as a »navigation system for creative industries«. They go on to say: »The Index provides students, instructors, and employers with a clear picture of the creative fields and highlights the disciplines in which students receive a particularly good university education. This helps students inform themselves and better plan their career path. It also allows universities to continue developing their degree programmes in a more purposeful way.«
Burkhart von Scheven, Professor of Image–Text–Concept in the Visuelle Kommunikation (Visual Communication) degree programme, adds: »The ADC is an important institution for all of us and is the only one collecting and publishing an annual creative ranking for universities in Germany. The system does, however, have its flaws.« The Federal State of Saxony, for example, currently has zero points. »This is likely due to the fact that the two art colleges in the state do not participate in this competition. In this sense, the index is not comprehensive and doesn’t provide any information on whether design education in Saxony is good or bad«, von Scheven continues.
This does not mean, however, that this exceptional result for Thuringia should be underestimated: »The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar can once again claim all the credit for the ranking.« The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is the only university in Thuringia included in the ADC ranking.
