The Faculty Board is the Faculty’s main decision-making committee and plays a central role in academic administration. The Board’s work is based on the Basic Regulations of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (see, among others, § 18 of the Basic Regulations). Elected members attend monthly meetings during the lecture period to discuss and make democratic decisions on pertinent matters. These decisions include, for instance, degree programme development, regulations and statutes, strategic personnel development, finances, and events / public relations.
Faculty Board sessions are generally open to the public, apart from when agenda items include personnel matters.
The invitation to the next Faculty Board session, as well as the minutes of the public portion of previous sessions, are published internally here.
The Joint Faculty Board is composed of two representatives from the following status groups: professors, technology and administration, scientific/artistic staff members, and students. The members are elected by their respective status groups and serve a three-year term of office. The exception to this is the student representatives, who serve a one-year term. The term of office usually begins in October.
Legally, the professors group represents a majority vote for decisions concerning student and academic affairs. To achieve this majority, the Extended Faculty Board includes five additional elected professors as voting members.
During the lecture period, sessions take place once a month, typically every other Wednesday at 1:30 pm. The Faculty Boards always meet in the week following Senate sessions to ensure that decision-making processes run smoothly. During the lecture-free period, so-called »außerordentlichen Sitzungen« (exceptional sessions) may be held if pertinent issues need to be discussed by a certain deadline.
The dates of Faculty Board sessions can be found in the Faculty’s event calendar.
