The Photo Workshop has inkjet printers for sheet material up to DIN A2 as well as large format printers (inkjet) that process roll material up to 111cm. We currently stock 7 different types of paper with different qualities and prices, which are integrated into our colour management system.
For technical reasons we do not print marginless. This results in the following maximum printable areas:
For photorealistic prints we recommend not to convert the RGB data into CMYK.

The resolution of the files required for printing is variable. Optimal printing results are achieved with our printers at a resolution between 180 - 360ppi. Prices vary between min. 1,40€ for a DIN A4 to max. 30€ for 1m², depending on the type of paper. Prices and papers are available in the Photo Workshop.
For optimal printing results (colour, contrasts, tonal values, colour saturation etc. and correct size), prior knowledge of resolution, colour mode, colour profile, colour depth, paper surface, file format etc. is required. Prerequisite as well as a hardware-calibrated display for checking. We offer the appropriate working environment in the workshop and will be happy to advise you.
To get control over tonal values, contrasts, colours and especially image size, image files should be opened in Photoshop or Affinity locally and printed from the software. If necessary, we can also transfer your print data directly from the data carrier/cloud link, specifying the size and print medium (not recommended).
Only when your data is actually on our server after sending, we can make a statement about the expected duration of completion. In the best case, we can start immediately. Depending on the workload, printing may not start until the following business day.
Of course, we can print any image data formats, PDFs, InDesign or Illustrater files. With image data formats such as TIFF and PSD (also RAW formats), you can ensure that the correct presettings are made for our colour management system before printing. With PDF, on the other hand, you have already made these decisions when creating the file and therefore no longer have the opportunity to adapt it to our system for optimal results.
Whether files should be offered for printing in RGB or CMYK depends on the process. We use inkjet printing with up to 11 different colours and accordingly offer fine art papers that can reproduce a comparatively large colour space. With CMYK files you usually cannot use this large colour space. Apart from that, photographs/scans are by nature recorded with light, i.e. in RGB mode. Without compelling reasons (for example a change to greyscale) this colour mode should not be changed.
We also print graphics, typo, construction plans, information posters, etc.
The print files are sent via the university network to a computer in the Photo Workshop, from where we can process the print files and control the printers. After sending all your print data, you should let us know. We will then check whether we have received all your data, whether the print size is correct and ask whether the choice of printing paper is correct. If files reach us without consultation (before or after), they will not be printed and deleted after a few days.
Prints (material costs for paper and ink) must be paid for by Thoska card upon collection. Please load your Thoska normally for this purpose, do not use the so-called "print account", as is the case with the SCC.
