PARFORCE: Advanced Training Course 2023
The Partnership for Virtual Laboratories in Civil Engineering (PARFORCE) recently organized an advanced Ph.D. training course in applied and computational mathematics for engineering applications.
The course was jointly coordinated by the University of Aveiro and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It took place from February 13th to 23rd (online phase) and March 6th to 10th (hybrid phase, in-person in Aveiro, Portugal, and online). Doctoral students specializing in engineering and mathematics from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, University of Osijek, and the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, Skopje attended the course.
The course curriculum included training in Bayesian statistics, machine learning methods, and guest lectures from different engineering fields. The course emphasized hands-on experience, and participants worked in groups to apply the trained topics to engineering problems.
