Many people have lost their homes due to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Jochen Schwarz is head of the Earthquake Damage Analysis Centre at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He explains which obstacles have led to better protection of buildings in the region against earthquakes. He also describes the factors for earthquake-resistant construction.
