Research

Research at the Chair of Urban Water Management and Technologies of Urban Material Flow Utilization focuses on theoretical, experimental and practical aspects of wastewater technology. Current research focuses on integrated urban drainage, adaptation strategies for demographic and climate change, development of wastewater treatment technologies with a focus on energy and material utilization, sanitation systems for extreme locations, consulting for wastewater treatment plant planning and operation, assessment and development of new treatment processes (such as phosphorus recycling and elimination of endocrine substances), studies on requirements for stormwater and combined wastewater treatment and method development for management planning in accordance with the EC Water Framework Directive. The website provides an overview of ongoing and completed projects since 2001 as well as information on laboratory and test facilities.

"VertiKKA2" is the continuation of "VertiKKA", a project to develop a vertical climate treatment system. The system uses gray water for irrigation and generates electricity via PV modules to protect the plants from the effects of the weather. The aim is to increase the proportion of blue-green infrastructure and improve the urban microclimate. In the implementation phase, further developed modules are being tested at the Bauhaus University Weimar.
