BBV bachelor thesis is BIM Champion 2024

Sema Yilmaz was honoured as the best young talent for her bachelor thesis

Sema Yilmaz was honoured by buildingSMART Germany on 7 May in Erfurt as the best young talent 2024 in the category "Work by trainees and students" with her bachelor thesis "BIM and building materials".

In her bachelor's thesis, Sema Yilmaz focussed on the life cycle assessment of building materials and investigated how EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) can be represented in the IFC scheme. Based on the Open BIM concept, the buildingSMART data model was developed in order to exchange building data across software throughout the entire life cycle of a building. The project was based on one example, cement, but it is transferable to other building materials. In the bachelor's thesis, which really demonstrated a great deal of depth, the extent to which this formulated approach to the integration of object-related material properties can already be realised was examined using three selected and standard market applications. In the context of digitalisation, the work dealt intensively with the topics of resource conservation, sustainability and life cycle assessment.

buildingSMART Germany is the competence network for the digitalisation of the construction and real estate industry and for Open BIM.
