Construction site excursion to the Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport

Students of Bauhaus-University Weimar visit one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe.

The tour, led by Drees & Sommer, offered an exciting insight into the engine room of a multi-billion-euro project.

Terminal 3, being constructed in the south of Frankfurt Airport, is expected to accommodate around 19 million passengers per year upon its planned completion in 2026. The main terminal building and the three associated piers G, H, and J will provide a total area of 403,000 square meters, roughly comparable to the area of Vatican City.

A particular highlight is the so-called "drop ceiling." Over a length of 94 meters and a width of 22.5 meters, a total of 25,000 meters of aluminum tubing has been shaped into drops to ensure ample brightness in the marketplace area.

Following the tour, the students had a unique opportunity to discuss what they had seen with Prof. Dr. Martin Havers and gain insights into the challenges and their technically impressive solutions.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Fraport AG, Drees & Sommer, Züblin AG, and especially to Prof. Dr. Martin Havers for the organization and the unique opportunity to visit such a project.
