Construction site excursion to the Zeiss Campus in Jena

Shapers of the future meet a high-tech location in the development phase

On 13 December 2023, the Chair of Construction Management and Construction Processes had the opportunity to visit the construction site of the ZEISS Group's future high-tech location in Jena. Under the guidance of Barbara Kirchner (ZEISS Group) and Sarah Wurziger (THOST Projektmanagement GmbH) as a graduate of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the students were able to gain interesting insights into the history of the project, the construction site organisation and the challenges faced by the companies involved.

On the former SCHOTT site near the Westbahnhof railway station, not only are new production areas being built on the 80,000 m2 construction site in the basement storeys, but also smart office worlds, technology and laboratory areas.

Following the tour of the construction site, the students were able to listen to senior site manager Martin Schlereth (Riedel Bau) explain the use and benefits of Building Information Modelling (BIM) within the project.

We would like to thank everyone involved, especially Vanessa Morber, for their commitment and wish them continued success.
